  1. Yea, I moved down south almost 10 years ago. To Texas initially so I haven't seen a real winter in a very long time. Hell I don't even own winter coats anymore. Not really looking forward to that but I'll hopefully be attending Ohio State so it'll be worth it.
  2. 1. From Brooklyn but now living in Florida and moving to Ohio this summer. 2. Bad and Boujee (I couldn't remember last song I heard so I shuffled my playlist and that one came up). 3. Leo
  3. Got accepted into Ohio State last night. I haven't gotten the acceptance email yet but my status online has changed from pending to accepted. Big stress relief for me since due to my wife's job, i can't relocate easily so Ohio State was my top choice for the area As it turns out, they review the apps as they receive them, even when stuff is missing. I submitted my app in November but my last LOR didn't come in until just this past weekend. Took them 2 days to accept me (not counting weekend) from the time they got my last letter.
  4. Anyone else applying to Ohio State? I submitted my application back in Nov 13th but 2 out of 3 letters weren't submitted until just yesterday 1/21. I'm wondering if they review the applications as they come then wait to receive everything to finalize the answer or if they don't even look at it until everything is in. I'm super nervous either way.
  5. I sent the emails asking for the LOR back in September, almost 2 months before they would receive an email from the school inviting them to do it online. It is true that my email address was unknown and it might've been considered spam. I sent the email again but that wouldn't have helped, in fact, I think that's more the reason why a filter would consider me spam. One of the two professors is a big shot in a top college in London now, so I can see him clicking on ignore the minute he saw my heading. The other, is the sweetest person I've met so it surprised me from her. There's no way my emails didn't get to her since she works at the same school as the professor that did agree to do it so I'm sure their email server works the same and it did not send me to spam. I went to a big state school but majored in philosophy so that department was small. All the majors knew each other and I had very close relationships with the small faculty department. I would also like to think the best of people and like I said, I understand them not wanting to write the letter. A quick email telling me no would've been great. I can't be absolutely certain they, in fact, received the emails so I guess this will forever remain an unsolved mystery.
  6. I'm asking because I seem to have spotted a trend and was curious to know if that's standard. I have been out of undergrad for almost 5 years so I absolutely understand professors not wanting to recommend me for grad school. I had good professional recommendations but I wanted an academic one so I said what the hell and asked 3 undergrad professors. One was glad to do it. The other 2, however, just never replied at all. Not even to say "I don't know you, sir." They knew me well, by the way. Is this the system in place for rejections?
  7. You guys are giving me the sads. I was trying to be an overachiever and have my Ohio State app in by end of October. Everything is in except a LoR from a professor who is kind-hearted but extremely forgetful. I keep making excuses to remind him but it still isn't submitted and I'm assuming now I'm screwed until after the holidays. Im running out of options here so I hope everything works out.
  8. There are gems out there you can certainly find if you search deep enough. Some govt MSW positions start you at $65k. I'm assuming right out of college your prospects aren't looking good but I really don't see an issue with making decent money with a couple of years under your belt.
  9. Anyone got any info on Springfield area? Wife is in the Air Force and we are getting assigned to Dayton next summer. I'm applying to grad school at Ohio State. The wife said she would happily split the commute. Only thing I see between Columbus and Dayton is Springfield.
  10. I'm applying to Ohio State and Cincinnati. My wife is active duty Air Force and we'll likely end up in Dayton, OH next summer. OSU is a good 80 miles away but I'm willing to make the drive if accepted. Cincy is my backup. I know Miami(OH) is very close but a coworker did her undergrad there and said there is basically no diversity in that school. Case Western isn't far either but I'm not trying to get into that much debt.
