  1. Hi all, I have heard that for a price of $12 you can hear your GRE score over the phone. In other topics on this forum, folks have discussed hearing their score over the phone before the score was posted online. I have scanned the ETS website for a mention of this to no avail. So, I am wondering about the validity of this, and how soon you can hear your scores over the phone. I'm asking because I booked a GRE exam 15 days prior to an admissions deadline (they are OK with unofficial scores), and I'm wondering if I can rely on this "just in case" the scores don't appear on day 14...
  2. DBear, for schools that allow you to fill in the unofficial report - do you know what this means for the AW?
  3. I would check and see if the school receives the GRE scores electronically or by post. If the scores are received electronically, then they arrive almost instantaneously after your scores are posted online (10-15 days after test day). So if this is the case, then it sounds like you are A-OK.
  4. Hi all, I am applying for a PhD position in Stanford Energy Resources Engineering, and I have two GRE score sets to choose from for my application: (1) Quant 162 / Verbal 157 / AW 5 (2) Quant 162 / Verbal 165 / AW 4.5 Its basically a trade off of verbal versus AW. Note that the average score percentile is higher for (2) Maybe I should be applying for a program in the humanities ... :/ I have a high GPA from my undergrad and masters that I hope can buffer a lowish quant score. Let me know what you guys think!
  5. Yes, agree with johnallen. Check this out: http://www.mcelroytutoring.com/blog-post.php?id=4091
  6. Hi GradCafe, Context: I will be applying for a PhD position at Stanford Energy Resources Engineering in December I took the GRE last year and scored V 157 / Q 162 / AW 5 With Stanford ERE in mind, I studied my ass off hoping to boost my quant score. Took the test yesterday, and alas, my nerves got the better of me. The results are rather confusing; apparently my vocabulary has seen a dramatic improvement in one year. My new score is V 165 / Q 162 / AW N/A Question: Is it worth it to retake the GRE? Could a 162 quant score be a potential deterrent to entry? I purposefully left myself just enought time in case a retake was necessary. Other details: Bachelor's degree in engineering at a decent university. Cumulative GPA = 3.9. Also some undergrad research experience Master's degree (in prog.) in environmental science. Cumulative GPA = 4 1 publication so far (not first author) Relevent industry experience Thanks for the help all,
