    Good morning,
I’m late to the forum, unfortunately. All of the support during this arduous process would have been welcomed! I have already been accepted at the University of Georgia - full tuition, assistantship, and stipend. I have an interview at University of Houston tomorrow ?. Denied from UT- Austin. Haven’t heard anything from any of my other schools, which is starting to make me nervous. I applied to a LOT of schools.
UMich, UNC-CH, UCLA, USC, ASU, Fordham, FSU (UMich and USC seem to have already made decisions so I’m just waiting on confirmation of rejection).

Was accepted to USciences Health Policy PhD program today, with a focus on substance use. No word on funding, but it was nice to hear something back!
Still waiting on Penn; a poster on the results said decisions are supposed to come out next week sometime.
    Wishing everyone continued good luck!

Waitlist's  certainly happen! Definitely a good thing, and mainly top applicants will move around schools so surely the waitlist will move around some.

I got rejected as well. However, the Chair of the SSA Program wrote me a personal email copying the two POIs I spoke with, encouraging me to apply again next year because she enjoyed reading my application and just didn't have space for me.
I am 0 for 2 thus far! These 2 were my reaches though, so hopefully I'll hear a YES from the 4 soon.

Most schools don't do interviews, generally speaking. Interviews are mostly done if they are unsure about an applicant or have a question or to about them. So interviews, depending on the school, can be a good thing or "less of a good thing" scenario.

    @SocialResearcher Wasn’t me...
If it helps, their website states:
Please note: Interviews and campus visits are not part of the admission process for all PhD applicants. Contact will be initiated by the program after files have been reviewed.

I saw that one, but didn’t want to hijck your thread  .
For PhDs in social work/Social welfare, I do think it is important to apply to a few different places. This is my second cycle, and I can tell you that there was a number of highly qualified applicants in the cycle with me last year. I think given that PhDs are funded, it makes it more competitive than say a DSW (doctorate in social work here in the states) that aren’t typically funded and more clinically focused.
I know given my experience last cycle (where I applied to one school, albeit an ivy) that I elected to apply to two this cycle.

I have convinced myself that tomorrow is when the University of Washington will announce its decisions. If this turns out to be wrong and I have to wait through another weekend, I'm going to need all the wine....

    Hi all,
I didn't even know this existed, so yay!. I am still finishing up my MSW so I know I am not as much of a contender as others. However, I have always had a 4.0, I have original research, conferences, etc. and I have been in a social work-type work setting for 15 years, so I am hoping that will help me. My GRE scores are good, so I am hoping that will help as well.
I am nervous though because I haven't been contacted by any of the programs I applied for, and I've seen that others have had some interviews from them.
I applied to University of Washington (I am from Seattle originally), Boston College, and UT Arlington, so all over the place.
Just hoping to hear something soon so I know where I am moving my family!

Also received my official rejection from Berkeley today. I can't say I'm surprised but still disappointed. Still waiting to hear back from U Penn and UCLA. Staying positive for UCLA as it would be the best fit!

This should be the week for U Penn and Berkeley (two people have already heard back)! Has anyone heard anything from or about UCLA? I'm not feeling too confidant about the application season but hoping for the best.
Good luck everyone and congrats to those who have heard back!

Hi all! New here. A former colleague told me that this site existed, and am super excited to connect with all of you!
I applied to three schools - UNC, WashU & Michigan.
So far I've been accepted to UNC Chapel Hill, and have an interview at WUSTL on Feb. 20.
Has anyone heard anything from Michigan?

Thanks! I'm very excited. Actually, that's an understatement. I'm elated.
The program director called me and I then received an email from my assigned mentor.
In terms of my profile, honestly, I think many of the standard metrics are of secondary importance in my case. What I believe distinguished me was my statement - particularly in terms of my goals for doctoral study. I spent months on it. Months. And I wrote three distinct statements, one for each school I applied to. Briefly, my story is that I came upon social welfare/social work after a highly interdisciplinary background (public health, education, child development) which, in conjunction with my personal history and a bit of direct service work, has informed my research interests (child welfare with a social justice/empowerment lens). I have been looking into programs since May, that includes meeting with professors, current students, alums, I sat in on a couple classes, etc. I was trying to understand how I might fit into these programs and learn about the opportunities that exist for child welfare scholarship, particularly as it relates to out-of-home care. Also, I believe my recommendations were exceptional (I waived my right to read, so I'm guessing here) and included one nationally recognized methodologist who was a previous doctoral mentor (I did not complete that program). In terms of the nuts and bolts, I have 10 years of clinical/applied research and evaluation experience in medical school settings including Penn, I have a couple publications and a couple under review (in public health), lots of presentations (national and international), average GRE scores for an Ivy (averaging 82nd percentile I think), and solid but not exceptional grades. I do not have an MSW.

    Hi all,
I applied to three social work/welfare phd programs. I received an acceptance from SP2 at UPenn (phone call) yesterday, so those decisions are going out. I was told to expect a letter of admission soon, I imagine I'll have that by next week. I also applied to Rutgers and Bryn Mawr and have not heard anything yet. A professor at Rutgers told me that generally, applicants can expect a reply the first or second week of February. I have no insight as to Bryn Mawr's process.
    Hope that helps!

Just received an update from UPenn PHD Social Welfare admissions. Supposedly decisions are to be released sometime next week for applicants. I saw there was another poster who had also applied there (anyone else this cycle?), so that you might like to know.
Good luck all, and keep the updates coming!

Seems most of the similar disciplines release close to the same time. Just heard Penn Social Welfare PHD will be releasing next week, so I would say by next Friday.
