  1. Generally, this is good advice. You WILL have better job prospects with 2 year most master experience. As an admitted PhD Student who doesn't have 2 years post experience, I can tell this doesn't faze me in the slightest. I DON'T like practice courses, I do not like micro level social work. I don't want to teach these courses at a University. I have several friends in the same boat as I am who are landing tenure track positions. Don't kid yourself, schools want you for the research grant's you can secure - not teaching courses that adjuncts can teach.
  2. As someone who recently applied and got accepted - it entirely depends on what schools you are applying to. The ones you mentioned are all tier 1 social work schools and WILL be difficult to get in. You will need to compensate for your low undergrad GPA, retake your GRE, and try to get research experience if you want a good chance to get into any of those schools.
  3. Seems like notices are coming out: was rejected to NYU and UCLA. Happy to finally hear back
  4. Yeah, must have been some glitch. I am assuming their new system is taking a toll on their admissions situation.
  5. Fantastic, I'll definitely follow you up about that stuff - thanks
  6. Between Denver or Pittsburgh? Most likely the latter, however if there is funding adjustments in my favor at Denver I would much rather live there. Close to family and home.
  7. I have many friends in the city and the cost of living has been going up a lot while the stipend at university of Denver remains unchanged. 15k is not hardly enough to pay for a studio per year there.
  8. I heard from Denver too. I just can't understand how their PhD candidates live on the stipend they hand out (for only 3 years?!). so many questions.
  9. At this point I just wish I got an answer. this process is completely exhausting and I am so sick of waiting (untill april 15th now). I don't think many people are going to decline their acceptance to WashU, but I am sure it's happened.
  10. I'm in my last semester at WashU (policy/research orientated) and I couldn't disagree more. There is a good amount of macro based opportunities, you just have to be assertive in acquiring them. Some of the most important macro projects in the country are happening right in this city (For the Sake of All, for example). You have to look for your own practicum placement anywhere you go. I can assure you the St. Louis area has more than enough to choose from.
