I think Berkeley, UW and NYU have sent out all invites. Columbia is still sending out invites.- 426 replies

I think because of funding it is more difficult for international applicants to get in neuroscience programs in the US. You should apply to some lower-ranking universities. If you didn't, you could apply to some masters programs to get more research experience and then apply to PhD programs again in the next year. Or you can try to find some external funding to increase your chance. I know there was an international student who didn't get the interview invite from UC Berkeley neuroscience. However, he was admitted after he sent an email to UC Berkeley said he has got a government fellowship. It was probably because UC Berkeley didn't need to pay stipend to him and they could earn money by admitting him.- 426 replies

I have just got an invite from Brain and Cognitive Science at the University of Rochester. My second interview invite. Actually, it should be the third one, if I didn't screw up that simple pre-interview.- 426 replies

Hi, @kokobanana, could you give us some advices about the interviews? What are the professors looking for when conducting the interviews and what are the most common reasons that some people are rejected after the interview? Thanks.- 426 replies

Actually, I applied to the NYU neural science Shanghai track. Students in this PhD program will spend 1.5 years in New York and 3.5 years in Shanghai (in China) and they will receive an NYU PhD. I hope this could increase my chance because I guess most American students won't apply to this program. And also, I can spend more time with my family.- 426 replies

Hi, @seven27, I did not apply to U of MN because I don't want to stay at the same place and I want to explore something new. And also, Minnesota is too cold.- 426 replies

I have applied to: UC Berkeley UC San Diego UCLA Brandeis University USC U of Chicago Northwestern Rochester (Brain and Cognitive Sciences) NYU (Neural Science) UT Austin (invited to on campus interview on 12/14) U of Arizona (I screwed up the Skype interview because of my broken English) I have studied at the University of Minnesota for two years, but I still have difficulty speaking English fluently. Though the poor English speaking skill did not prevent me from getting a 3.83 GPA and a good GRE score, I really need to improve my English speaking skill to pass the interviews.- 426 replies

I have just got the invitation to the recruitment weekend from UT Austin Neuroscience via email.
-
I got an email from University of Arizona neuroscience this morning. The email says they will do a short Skype interview with me and the invitation for the recruitment event will be issued after the Skype interview. I am not sure why there is a Skype interview before the invitation to the recruitment event. Is it because I am an international student so they want to test my English speaking skills?
