  1. @Spiro Spero: when it rains... I've heard back from all but two of the thirteen Classics PhD programs I applied to this season (I presume the holdouts -- Yale and UVA -- are rejections). I've been fortunate enough to receive a couple funded offers, and am pretty sure at this point that I will accept Michigan's -- their Classical Studies program is top-notch and I was very impressed when I visited two weeks back. So I've been doing well!
  2. Cosigned: Dublin is fantastic and this program sounds like such a great opportunity.
  3. I'm interviewing at Columbia (for Classics) this coming week. Not sure what their timeline is with Classics vs. Classical Studies. Toronto has already sent out acceptances and waitlist notifications -- I received the latter. As far as I know all has been quiet on the Berkeley front, but I'd imagine they'll notify people in the next week or two. Keep your chin up!
  4. Awesome, congrats!!
  5. I realize I'm a couple months late to this topic, but since no one else has replied: in my public school district it's about a $7,000/year difference for the first 5 years or so, with slight incremental increases. These increments grow steadily: after 12 years or so the difference amounts to roughly $10,000/year. This is, at least in my opinion, a pretty substantial pay scale difference, considering how little money secondary school teachers earn (at least those beginning their careers).
  6. I encourage anyone considering an M.A. in Latin and Greek to apply to the University of Maryland, College Park. Their program is top-notch and one of the few fully-funded M.A. programs in Classics in the US. The location is great as well. OvidInExile, they have faculty there who share your interests if you're interested in an M.A...
  7. I'm reapplying to Ph.D programs after last year's apps didn't work out. I completed my MA in Classics this year and currently teach secondary school Latin. Interested in Latin literature and ancient gender and sexuality, very broadly speaking. I, like very many of you, intend to further crowd the Classics job market. I know it's not very feasible financially, but I want to do what I love, consarnit.
