  1. Anyone hear any updates? Looks like they sent out a batch of emails mid-march last year to update people whether they moved on from the initial stage.
  2. Just clicked submit, good luck everyone hopefully things go a little smoother this time around.
  3. It's definitely tomorrow, I put it in my calendar as "NSF?" a few months ago and calendars don't lie.
  4. Definitely did not expect to hear back from them this week... now I feel more anxious
  5. I would assume you are fine, at worst you are applying as a first year grad student which is completely legal by their rules. Make sure you keep up communication with them to ensure something isn't interpreted wrong, for example maybe they look at your transcript and think you've been in a masters program for 5 years.
  6. Any advice on choosing a primary field? My project is mostly ecology and environmental biology (which look like they are under the same panel for review) but will use genomics for the data analysis. Should I say my field of study is interdisciplinary or just leave it as one primary field ie ecology.
  7. In my experience the best way to start doing meaningful experiments is to finish the grunt work as quickly as possible. It shouldn't be taking 2 hours to empty biohazard bins. If you want to get an experiment, finish all the housekeeping tasks and then when you have nothing to do start asking other people in the lab if there's anything you can help with. Everyone in a lab usually has too much work to deal with so if you are consistently sitting around because you have finished your work, someone will find you an experiment to do. If you finish all your work and still no one is giving you any experiments or at least training you on more meaningful tasks, then I would start looking for a different lab.
  8. Cornell (EEB) rejections letters went out yesterday, seems a bit overdue.
  9. Informed by POI that I am unofficially accepted to Ohio State EEOB and am up for a university fellowship! Feels good to finally hear back from a school
  10. Yea I talked with a POI at all of the schools I applied to. Haven't heard much from them since applying though.
  11. Glad to know other people are still waiting to hear back from schools too. EEB programs seem to move a little slower than some of the other ones.
  12. So I originally posted this in the General Biology Board, didn't realize we had our own thread going. Kinda bored waiting to hear back from schools so I figured I would post here to see if any of you would send me an interview. Let me know what you think! All of my research has been broadly in the field of molecular biology and my proposed area of study involves a combination of molecular biology and ecology. I am curious to see if this will help/hinder/not matter for my application. I should have pretty strong letters of rec from the 3 different PI's I have worked with.Applying to Where: I have contacted and talked with 4 different potential faculty either via phone/skype/in-person. All seemed interested and encouraged me to apply but I am concerned funding availability or student limits may leave me without any interviews. Washington State-Biology University of Washington- School of Aquatic and Fishery Sciences Ohio State- Ecology, Evolution, and Organismal Biology Cornell- Ecology and Evolutionary Biology I would greatly appreciate if anyone had more information about the timelines of these schools. I realize these are smaller programs off the beaten path and it is hard to come by helpful info about any specific stats. Cheers, hopefully someone else is bored over the holidays
