I know I know, this process is SO stressful, yesterday I told my friend it's kinda like a reprieve...I saw your other posts, Boabdil, and I think you are doing great ;D

Thank you. Best wishes from me.

Sure. There was an email titled "HDS Application Completed" on 1/16.

Thank you! That is great news. I will keep you updated on my application as well, and whether or not I get an interview. I got that email on the 17th.

    Thank you, Boabdil!!!

Thank you! Out of curiosity, I was wondering, would you be willing to share with me when you received the email that your application was under review? I just want to see if an earlier date makes a difference. Thank you!

Hi dear people! I got the invitation minutes ago.

Today is the first day of Chinese New Year. IDK if they did this on purpose to someone who studies East Asian religions, but to be honest, after staying up all night for the festival and woke up seeing the invitation lying in the email box, I felt so blessed and almost wanted to cry…

I know that it’s a hard time to hang on there for waiting, so, wish you all the best and please feel free to ask me if you need more information!

That's wonderful! Congratulations. I'm very happy for you. Good luck!

Im glad HDS sent out that email. It confirms they will probably still be sending out more interviews.

Yes, I got it as well. Glad to know that they will continue sending interview requests until the first week of March.

I went to a State School, nothing fancy. I described my background in the very first post I made if you go to my profile. Places like HDS are very finicky tbh, there’s no guarantee and it’s very much out of your control. I wish there was consistency but there isn’t. Also judging by previous years’ threads, they should still send out more interview invites. And they said they will continue to do so early March.

To answer your Q, I submitted my application an hour before the deadline lol. Inshallah you will receive something soon.

Thank you for the assurances. I am glad that you got an interview, and reading about it made me happy.

I guess I'll just have to wait and see how the next week plays out.

Congrats again, and I hope you get into the program.

How was the interview? Is there anything in particular look forward to?

Thank you, and best wishes from me. I appreciated your reply.

    For the MTS program

I was wondering, in what university did you complete your undergraduate education? Also, how much previous language training do you have? I have two degrees from a top 20 global university, with GPAs above 3.9, and yet, I have not received any interview request. I am wondering what the criteria is, and what is required. I received the notification that my application is ready on the 17th, and I probably did not make a the cut for whatever reason, since I have not yet received an interview request. I've known of people with zero background in religion who've gotten into the program in years past, so I find no notification very surprising.

Would you also be willing to share when you submitted your application?

Very disheartening overall, but I am hoping that I receive some notification soon.

I am glad that you started this thread.

    Thank you!

Wow, way to be a weirdo who replies to a comment from 3 months ago with a rude response.

The first 2 years don't matter anyway, it's the last 2 years that universities look at.

What do you care anyway? Don't have anything nice to say, then go away. They weren't bragging, they were stating facts.

Yeah, try telling that to Harvard law buddy. I have a solid GPA throughout, but I am not going around this site bragging about it.

Hey, I am wondering who else has applied to the MT program at OISE! What concentration did you apply for, what teachable(s), and what did your application look like?

I applied to intermediate/senior for biology & social science. I had volunteer experience in a high school and ~4.0 GPA average in my last two years.

4.0 last two years is not as impressive as 4.0 throughout. Don't try to brag about your grades if you hide half of your undergraduate  career.

Hi, all: I, too, was rejected this year. In fact, I was rejected two years in a row. But failure does not mean defeat :) For all those that did not get in, keep your head up high.

I was, however, accepted at the University of Cambridge for the MPhil in Public Policy. Does anyone have any feedback to offer on that program? Of course it's a great university, but the program is still in its early days (launched in 2013) and I hear it is under-resourced relative to other MPP programs, such as Blavatnik. But it's a much smaller class size than Oxford (25 vs. 120), which is a plus. I would love to hear any thoughts on the Cambridge MPP!

Not again! I remember reading your posts from last year... This is unfortunate to say the least. Good luck at Cambridge!

Can't wait either!! Just heard back from Harvard Kennedy School yesterday - accepted for MPP! Definitely makes the wait less stressful - less than 9 days left!

Are you a gifted student? Graduating from university at the age of 19 is remarkable! Well done! You must be a genius lol. What was your cGPA if you don't mind me asking?

    Thanks! My GPA was 3.77.

Nice, mine is 3.92, but I've not heard back yet. I applied to the Late Antique and Byzantine Studies program (MSt). Hopefully I hear back soon. I love Oxford and would love to attend.

I sent my application for the MPhil in Chinese Studies last week (March deadline). It's already been forwarded to the department. I have an "Upper second class" BA degree (amounts to a 3.5 GPA) in Politics with some work experience in an Asian NGO.

I've found two silly typos in my cv as I did not care too much about it. (Translated it from my native language and left one word in it). I just hope that they don't give too much of a fudge about it.

You should be fine. Although, Oxford is very competitive, and you might be waitlisted. A rejection is also possible, but unlikely as long as you had excellent letters of recommendation and writing samples. I don't think they would care much about the mistakes, but they may think that you are not very professional. Good luck!

Luckily for me, I'm a potoo! Maybe they have more luck than owls ;) :D

Thank you! I've emailed my course administrator, and she said I'll hopefully know their answer by the end of this week!

Lol, okay! That was quite silly of me. I guess I need to know my birds.

Anyway, that is great to hear! I hope you get admitted.

I still haven't heard anything. Fingers crossed for this week!

Oxford doesn't admit owls from California, so I wouldn't get my hopes up! ;)

Jokes aside, I think you should be admitted soon. Hang in there!

    Hi all,

I'm 22 (and I'm from the UK)- in my final year of law school. (During my studies) I have worked for the BBC, Guardian, Independent & other national/international papers. I've worked for a government in a foreign (developing) country for 6 months where I helped with the creation of policies. I've done some humanitarian work in the past and I've launched some exciting projects. I know that most people who have applied have years of experience but I clearly don't- hence I'm so anxious for the 17th.

Let me know what you guys think- be honest and brutal haha

Wait, where is your law degree from? I am just curious... Why don't you just practice law right off the bat? Let me know your GPA and I will let you know what your chances are.

Hey @Erudite, just got an email from Graduate Admissions and Funding Team asking for 2017-2018 Application Survey. I think it's an email sent to all applicants, but do you think this means anything?

I got the email as well, and I applied to Late Antique and Byzantine Studies. I am trying to figure out what this means. Is it a hidden rejection? Or is it a sign of admission? Or are we just thinking too hard about it lol

  17. Hi all,

I am currently in my final semester and am graduating from the University of Toronto in June 2017. I have a cGPA of 3.92 going into my final semester, and I have excellent letters of recommendation. I also have excellent research experience and writing samples. What are my chances of gaining admission into Oxford's Late Antique and Byzantine Studies program?

I think that I should be a lock for Oxford, as their minimum cGPA required for the program is 3.75, and mine was 3.92. However, my only concern is that I did not cite any sources in my bibliography, despite listing a few and briefly discussing their contents. Will this mistake cost me admission into Oxford? What are your thoughts guys?
