  1. What prof? Kleiner?
  2. Just got accepted to BU's MA program in Archaeology! They don't offer funding for MA students, but if all else fails I have somewhere to go! Pumped!
  3. Yeah, it's crazy even for someone who lives near there! I'm from Wisconsin so if I need to go far away I need to be confident in any of my decisions, ha. My boyfriend applied to Columbia's bioethics program (he wants to do a masters there while waiting to hear back from med schools--because that masters takes only 1 year). However, he wants to be a surgeon, so any debt that he wracks up isn't going to take long to get rid of in the long run. I'll be paying debt for 1000000000 years no matter what, on the other hand.
  4. As obnoxiously expensive as Columbia's post bacc program is, it's impressive that they even have a financing page and it seems like there's the possible option of part-time matriculation so that you're possibly eligible for federal aid. Most programs go "this post bacc isn't even a certificate so good luck finding any money--also you're not eligible for federal funding".
  5. I am a classics major. How about you?
  6. This process is just terrible, but I'm glad there are so many good people here on Gradcafe to talk to about all of this!! I've got a great interview weekend coming up--much to my chagrin that I might live far away from everyone I know and love--but the program (University of Cincinnati) is just so good that I could never turn them down if they offered me admission. Then I'm on a waitlist, then have one rejection so far. I anticipate two more rejections (UCLA and Michigan-Ann Arbor) because they would have contacted me by now I think if they wanted to offer me anything. 5 more to go...
  7. @KALChicago Hello! Sorry for a late reply, but how have your apps been going? Where did you apply to as far as UCLA and Michigan go?
  8. Because some of you all might know, random question. When it comes to Postbacc programs in Classics, what is the deal with FAFSA/financial aid? I'm just thinking worst-case scenario that I don't get in anywhere, which is a possibility. My parents are homeless and make very, very minimal income, and I myself don't really have any savings. Being able to attend any undergrad at all has depended upon financial aid. My family also has a history of terrible credit scores, so private loans have never been a viable option. Any knowledge on this? Thanks!
  9. It's incredibly complicated and frustrating. I wouldn't have bothered applying if I hadn't had access to a fee waiver (I'm dirt poor).
  10. I should mention too that it's for the Joukowsky Institute, so archaeology. For anybody waiting on classics, etc.
  11. There was an automatic email sent out saying that the decision was made on the website. So I checked it and there was a standard rejection letter.
  12. Welp, got my first rejection (from Brown). It's Brown, so I never really expected to get in.

  14. Holy crap!! Getting into Berkeley is really intense (and extremely, extremely competitive)--congrats!
  15. That's fantastic, congrats!! What program did you apply to? (I ask because I'm waiting on news from archaeology). Good job so far everyone!
  16. The Brown archaeology page is like that too. It's Brown though so I'm not surprised.
  17. I'm super tempted to email some programs (IPCAA and UCLA) just to ask about statuses because in the very-VERY unlikely event that I would need to attend their prospective weekends I would need to cancel some prior plans. I'm trying to hold off until Tuesday or Wednesday this week though, just in case those rejections/rare invitations were to come in at the beginning of this week...Though at the same time it's very tempting because UCLA in the past has gotten to people before this date in the past, as has IPCAA. So I don't want to be waiting around for no reason when they could just straight up tell me about the rejection/waitlist/etc.
  18. @aspasiahaha We all are very anxiety-filled people here, so express whatever stresses you have. We're here for you! @likeavirgil Holy crapsnacks--congrats!!
  19. They did mention that in the email. Why did they accept so many last year? Were all of you guys just that awesome I think so, too.
  20. Hey there! They didn't. They just said that they can't give me updates until April and that I should tell them if I accept elsewhere.
  21. Just got waitlisted at UT-Austin. Not really surprised or disappointed because I had trouble really picking faculty whose research I liked a lot to mention in my personal statement. Wasn't super feeling it. Better than a rejection, though.

  23. Thanks!! Great faculty, library, program--it's fantastic! I'm looking forward to seeing the campus and meeting everyone. Where did you do your undergrad?
  24. Yes!
  25. Thank you @likeavirgil and @Archaic_Smile!! Also Archaic_Smile, we applied to a lot of the same programs!
