  1. I still have not heard from USC, nor did I get a rejection letter from UCLA (the most likely thing to happen). It is very difficult to get into aPhD program in the US, though I have both a BA from a respectable British institution, and an MA from the US, I dont have any luck
  2. @Aperio, thanks for the information! They actually told me before I had sent in my application, that they would not invite from abroad, would arrange a skype interview, but dont know when
  3. @Aperio, thanks for the information!
  4. Does anybody know what UCLA' interview policy is with regard to foreign applicants. I have not heard from them, which most likely means they are not interested, but if they were they could not send an overseas invitation anyway. I am curious to know how they handle overseas interviews
  5. @Argikeraunos I have also applied to Brown, but since I have not heard from them I assume I am rejected there too. So far I was rejected from UCSB, UCLA ( suspected), there is still one hope left
  6. @terraaurea My professors were all very enthusiastic about my applications and encouraged at least one ivy league, so far I had an interview of my college of choice, for which I am hoping, it is a smaller one, on the West coast, fantastic location, very nice Faculty, I am sure I would benefit immensely if accepted
  7. @terraaurea archaeology must be even more tricky then classics to apply to, because they must have fieldwork capacities I guess. I would normally not apply to Ivy League myself, but the application fee were not too bad, and the faculty matched my interests very well, but at hindsight, I regretted the effort and time spent
  8. @terraaureaI guess mine will be the second one! Have they sent a letter or did you check their site?
  9. Thanks for the information!

  10. I have applied for UCLA too, but since I did not receive an invitation I can safely assume they will not bother with me. Has anybody applied/heard from USC Dornsife?
  11. @Argikeraunos I have also applied at Brown, but not heard. I am not expecting a positive answer anyway, focusing more on my other choices
  12. @hypsipyle I am really relieved now.
  13. I also applied to UCLA, and mentioned Kathryn Morgan, but UCLA is far to competitive for me. I have applied to several in the California area. I have been reading the work of Irene de Jong, Mike Ball, Jonas Grethlein etc. At the moment I am reading again, Cicero, prose composition, history, trying to refresh everything, as it has been a while since I was last at school
  14. I am familiar with the interview process in England, as an undergrad, the interview was a lot about assessing what one had studied, ie about testing knowledge, whereas the US interview was rather about meeting the faculty and clarifying certain matters that the Admissions Committee thought important to address. I still have three more applications, I do not know if they require interviews or not
  15. I need to add that I did not apply to the most competitive Unis, Ivy league etc. From what I gather that particular college admits 10 people every year -unless I am mistaken - but some decline. May I ask hypsipyle if you are at a competivie Uni?
  16. I understand. It is just that I am from overseas and I need to buy my tickets asap, as the price rises fast! Thanks Ploutarchos
  17. I just have a general question for everybody, as I am not familiar with the system in the US. If a college requests an interview, and the interview runs smoothly, is it safe to assume that one is being accepted?
  18. @terraaureathe next time you are in Cyprus feel free to contact me, I am very interested to hear about your work, though I am from a different field entirely I have spent some time at UC Irvine, where I did an MA some time ago, and I would love to return again to Southern California, for more studies
  19. @GadflyThanks for the information! Yes, who knows, though I dont believe that I will be accepted into UCLA, I am set my hopes more for UCSB and USC, I was already in contact with UCSB, the faculty strikes me as vibrant and very dynamic, and they have made new hirings with important scholars, such as Helen Morales. I would be very lucky to get in! My other interest is Roman law, as I have studied law in Germany, and took papers in Roman law, I am very interested in Cicero, and the influnces of the Stoa

  21. @terraaurea I am actually based in Nicosia, I hope you enjoyed Cyprus!
  22. Hi terraaurea I am from Cyprus myself, and I am applying for a PhD in Classics, mainly at Unis in the California area, I hold a BA Classics from Kings College London and an MA from UC Irvine, as well as a law degree from Germany. I am interested in narratology, and Roman law
