  1. Thanks for the info! I was a little unclear at first about whether the centers were programs/affiliated with classes or not so it's nice to have more clarification. It sounds like the centers are a good opportunity to collaborate and build community.
  2. Oh god, I'm so sorry! That's what too much excitement gets me!
  3. Thanks so much for the reassurance. Researching and reading over everything about the program again is making me feel more excited and less stressed by the minute. There are so many amazing interdisciplinary centers and initiatives at UCSB! What did you learn about the Literature and the Mind program? @mereandtonks, I'm glad someone else relates. I hope you're feeling a little less freaked out now too, though!
  4. Yay! It's nice to know there will be some "familiar faces" (well, sort of). I've heard from one faculty member and a student as well, along with the Graduate Chair (all unprompted); I'm excited but also a bit overwhelmed about being in correspondence. I have so many questions and don't want to burden everyone with all of them when I'll be attending the Open House...also, I have a maybe ridiculous fear of asking the "wrong" questions and seeming completely uninformed/coming across poorly...?
  5. It would be great to meet up with you guys too! Has a professor or student reached out to you yet? So many emails! So many questions to ask!
  6. Thanks so much. That's really helpful. Could I ask what your subfield is?
  7. Does anyone know if Yale and Columbia interview all potential acceptances? I'm not really holding out hope anyway, but wondering if there's any way I can figure I was rejected before officially receiving a decision. Also, has anyone received a rejection from Berkeley yet? Wish they would send those out already!!
  8. I was accepted and I'm concerned about the same thing. My boyfriend wants to come out there with me if I go, but I'm not sure how we would make it work, especially when it seems like it's difficult to get family housing at all if you're not married or otherwise official. And I don't know how to drive or how much of a problem that would pose, but, of course, that's something I can learn if need be. According to the information I received the stipend is somewhat higher than that, though, and divided by 9 months rather than 12 it's not so bad (pretty much what I live on now, in NYC--actually a little bit more, I think). Also--I did ask about getting to the Open House. They provide two nights in a hotel and transport to/from the airport but do not offer funds toward the cost of airfare/travel. Also, I did get an email about my acceptance, but my portal still just says "submitted." Weird!
  9. Awesome! Is UCSB one of your top choices? I'd love to chat over email or something if you're open to it, it'd be nice to get to know someone who might end up in the same program. I'm still waiting on two schools, but not really hoping too hard for acceptances there; unless something really unexpected happens, it's a pretty sure thing I'll go. Thanks for your input--I sent an email asking about travel expenses, so hopefully I'll hear back soon.
  10. Congrats to everyone! Has anyone else here been accepted to Santa Barbara? I'm so excited--my first acceptance after numerous rejections. Is anyone going to attend the Open House? Any idea if they help out with airfare?
  11. I saw someone was accepted to UC Santa Barbara; congratulations. Has anyone else heard from UCSB?
  12. Has anyone else heard from Stanford? They are my top choice and I would really appreciate more information if anyone knows anything about the timeline. Congrats and good luck to everyone.
