Also, if you look around the 6th street area there are a lot of cute, but older houses for rent that are pretty cheap. It's not as close to campus, but it's a nice neighborhood (near Ward's Supermarket and Curia on the Drag). I rented a house in there with two other people and my rent was $450 a month, and technically we could have had a fourth person for even cheaper rent. If you prefer an apartment complex, there are several on Glen Springs Road/ 23rd Avenue that aren't super expensive, especially if you have roommates. Cobblestone, Brookwood Terrace, Madison Point, etc. Again, they aren't super close to campus, but they are on bus lines and bike-able. They are also away from the ridiculous Archer Road traffic. I grew up in Gainesville and live there now so if you have any questions about lesser known areas, feel free to message me.

I just received word that I've been accepted at the University of Indiana Bloomington's PhD program! This was my reach school--every other program that I applied to was just a MA.

I am shell-shocked. I need to sit down. I AM SITTING DOWN. What is happening!

 

I was accepted to the University of Florida today!!! I got the call while on the way to the airport and had to pull over/let my fiancé drive. I may cry on the plane...

After waiting through a painful number of rejections, I woke up to an acceptance from the University of Toronto! Absolutely thrilled, and totally in shock since I was already steeling myself to apply again next year.

I feel a bit guilty to say it, honestly, but it's true. Everything in me wants to run down the hall to my mentors and tell them that I got into all of the programs I applied to. Especially because they (and everyone else) thought I only had a good shot at about half. It just feels so good to prove everyone wrong, you know?

Yeah, it looks like UNC simply hasn't made their decisions yet. I would imagine they'll come this week, but they've traditionally been one of the later programs to notify. No sense in assuming an implied rejection just yet! 

I'd guess they're yet to notify. We're only a couple days past last year's notification date for them, and they're not famous for tiny cohorts where they could send offers without any GCers getting them and posting (like Vanderbilt).

Congratulations, I'm so excited for you! If you're thinking about them and have questions happy to answer any like I said  Their book studies stuff is definitely great—Hooks is super awesome, the Center for the Book is crazy, lot of great resources. 
I also already decided—off to Notre Dame! My other offer wasn't funded, and even if I got off the waitlists for my other schools I felt the faculty at ND were best for my interests, their funding was most generous, and they just have a lot of great resources. Really excited! 

omfg i just got off the phone with the graduate coordinator at U Michigan and apparently each different type of English PhD program sends out their results at different times?? I applied for the joint PhD in English and Gender Studies and she told me she'll hopefully get results out by the end of this week and that Michigan doesn't leave students hanging and sends out rejection letters in addition to acceptance/waitlist. not sure if this comforts anyone but it did provide me with some much needed relief.

GOT MY FIRST ACCEPTANCE from the MA program at UBC. I'm so happy, it's a great fit. I don't feel like I can accept immediately before I know if I've been admitted to any funded PhDs (since I'm American and a Canadian MA may be financially challenging) but this is such good news. It's such a load off to know that no matter what else happens I have at least one option for next year.

I got put on the long wait list at Virginia, which is my first bit of semi-good news so I'm considering it celebration worthy. Anyone have any input into how long a "long" waitlist is?
