  1. Received an Honorable Mention for my dissertation fellowship application in English. Mostly positive feedback, but, alas, not positive enough. Congrats to the awardees. For the rest of us, suerte/best of luck with everything else!
  2. Just wanted to drop a line to say I'm also anxiously waiting to hear the results on this one. I haven't visited GradCafe since 2017 when I got into my program--I forgot how distressing it was to be waiting on an e-mail like this. Best of luck to you all! The results link was also there for me this morning, but has since disappeared. I'm with @HeidiBobineon the sadistic mind game.
  3. Hi! Anyone in/heading to Eugene for the prospective student weekend at U of O? Would love to put some faces to the usernames.
  4. @t. slothrop, I'm assuming an implied rejection from Utah. I did call over & they said official rejections were being sent out late this week, so should be getting mine soon. This was my only rejection this season of 5 applications, so I am at peace with it! Thanks for the update!
  5. Anyone also waiting on the University of Utah? It seems like it should be coming up, but just wanted to ask! I saw a couple of waitlists posted on the survey, but I'm thinking those are for CW?
  6. I just wanted to add that I have really enjoyed reading the personal responses on this thread. I think I was struck most by the women here that have encountered unwarranted commentary about marital &/or maternal expectations. Like many of you here, I am also a first-generation college student, & fall into the category of the non-traditional student in the sense that I'm 26, have a husband & 3-year-old (both amazing, btw). As a WOC, I have been met with extraordinary support from mentors, professors, &, of course, my husband (he's also an academic). As far as my family is concerned, they lack an understanding of this world & what real impact it can make on our world. My father still wishes I had decided to become a real doctor. & most outside of academics just don't understand why I am so excited to be continuing my education for another 5-6 years. Someone just asked me today why I would want to keep going to school, & didn't I want to have another baby? Enjoy time with my daughter? I think men certainly face less stigma for continuing on with their pre-baby aspirations. For women, it's seen as a very selfish act. However, I am fully aware at the amazing opportunity I have to leave such an amazing inheritance to my daughter. & it's not money (as you all surely know), but, as you all have already stated, knowledge. Sending everyone here an incredible amount of support--especially to the women here! Cheers!
  7. @eatthatbee, thank you so much! <3 @clinamen, very personalized e-mail/letter attached. Spoke directly about my CV & professors that would like to work with me (I mentioned no POIs deliberately on application). Sorry, still coming down off the high right now! Thank you!
  8. I just got into my #1 choice--University of Oregon! Perfect fit & location for me/us! So so relieved right now. 2 acceptances & 3 still unknown (they send out decisions very late evidently). I AM FREAKING OUT. haha
  9. Not to stir the pot, but this is a venting thread. Am I right? I think everyone is a little on edge, but I'm sorry to hear things aren't going smoothly for you,@Yanaka! I hope they are able to work swiftly to get those issues resolved. I've seen both ends at work, and sometimes IT IS a total disregard of the student. Things happen!
  10. It's Monnnnday! Best of luck to everyone as we (im)patiently await what this week will bring us!
  11. I don't know if I'm feeling a surge of relief or anxiety! Probably both. But, alas, thank you for the general information. Signed, A Lurker
  12. Ok, whomever posted the Trump University acceptance--you win today! Literally laughing & made me so happy when I normally have so much anxiety looking at that survey page!
  13. I didn't know where I'd be around Spring Break this year, so didn't get to submit an abstract this year! The regional one (SW) was so much closer & less expensive that I just decided it would be a bit better for me. Plus, Popular Culture is a little bit out of my field, but I have really enjoyed the change of pace. It is really fun! Hope that makes sense. I hope you have fun in San Diego! I haven't been (Anaheim is furthest South I've gone in CA), but let me know how it went. Edited to add: Sorry my response is a bit sporadic, I'm running on like 5 hours of sleep today. o.o
  14. I decided to take a break from GC during the SWPACA! Otherwise it would have been great to get together to commiserate over pending decisions! I didn't attend many sessions at this one, but it was fun. I did the national APA/ACA one in Seattle last year that was really interesting, too. Hope you had a great presentation.
