  1. Yep me too - I think everyone got the message. I am somewhat considering, but my application is completely *not* a bioethics application
  2. The fog of war thins a little - thank you so much for the information! I am not holding out for any miracles but fingers crossed. I am still confused about the rejections that @JuniusBattius mentioned though
  3. Wait, you mean there were already rejections sent out? Should I be glad that I haven't received one yet then? *gulp* Truly a discombobulating situation...
  4. Wait, UNC hasn't decided on their rejections yet? So they have an open wait-list, and a hidden one? This is just downright confusing. I left the facebook group because I couldn't stand having updates from both the forum and the facebook group - it was making me unhinged and unable to concentrate on my work Oh dear that Indiana wait sounds stressful. I hope you hear something back soon (or solicit a reply if the wait gets too painful). As for Austin, my partner got into CUNY and Austin, with a high likelihood of going for CUNY (sensible), so you might get a shot if you (or anyone else) are still on some hidden wait-list.
  5. I know someone who got into UMich, NYU and the whole shebang - that person is likely to reject UMich but apparently wants to visit first. Some hope for you?
  6. Thank you - let us know what the outcome is! There are some particularly egregious ones, like UNC, whose deadline was 13th Dec, and have yet to send out rejections despite sending out waitlists and acceptances over a month ago. I don't get why they need to hold back all these rejections...
  7. I suspect no one wants to come across as 'humble-bragging' about how many schools they got into (not implying that you are) - even if they do share the same sentiments as you (and these sentiments are perfectly reasonable to have)?
  8. Well he didn't tell me I was rejected because of fit. I wrote to Friedman asking him if I would be a good fit at the department and he told me my interests in analytic metaphysics and philosophy of science is unlikely to fit well with the department's more historical interests - I just assumed it was one big reason why I was rejected in the end.
  9. Rejected at Stanford - was told by Friedman I wasn't a good fit but wanted to try anyway.
  10. We only have to wait a week anyway I hope someone hears good news!
  11. I don't know - wait lists and acceptances both seem to have gone out. My guess is that they don't want people all soliciting emails from them like the last few years (one guy solicits, everyone else starts doing it - probably gets annoying for them). Maybe I am just pessimistic One can always hope!
  12. Based on this alone, I think this is similar to the situation I am in with Irvine LPS: you are not rejected, but they *might* come up with a wait-list if enough people turn down the first round of offers, so this is some sort of possible wait-list status? But perhaps the phrasing for the remaining parts of your email confirms this more as a rejection than a possible wait-list...
  13. I guess it's hard to be rude when you have to put your name to that message! Commiserations, my friend - are you planning to try again / do an MA in the meantime? Thanks a lot! Yep, I emailed WUSTL to check if I was on the wait-list: good news - I was. Bad news: Not anymore. :| Well it's just one *possible* wait-list at Irvine now, so I don't have much hope - I'm hoping for funding for my masters program, or I might have to get a job to start paying off my student loans...
  14. Well it's probably a nicer way of saying I was rejected. Not enough people rejected their offers I suppose! Well now it's just Irvine LPS - hoping enough people turn their offers down for others so I can be considered! Otherwise it's a shut-out for me I guess...
  15. Finally heard back from WUSTL - I was on a hidden wait-list, but am now on the 'list of non-admitted students'. Sad!
  16. Meanwhile, still in purgatory for WUSTL without a rejection nor acceptance, and this is my last 'hope'. I suppose they changed their wait-list policy since they didn't sent out wait-list emails like last year? If anyone is planning to drop WUSTL please do so asap to save me from eternal waiting
  17. Seems like some guy got a call from NYU on the FB page, so it's going out around now...
  18. Well, there's a Rutgers acceptance on the survey now. /sigh
  19. UCSD tried to sneak a 2am rejection past me, but there's no getting past me! *tears*
  20. Yea it's been tough re-thinking my entire life - I've spent the past few years (high school, uni) with the explicit goal of becoming an academic, but now it seems I am at a dead end. Ironically, my partner who only applied just so she could be in the States with me got into two programs (UT Austin being one of them), while I've gotten into none so far. My last shot is a Cambridge MPhil conditional offer, but I can't attend without funding (which is scarce in the UK)... What do you think the main reason for your rejections were? I suspect it was fit for me, or maybe a weak writing sample (though all my supervisors told me that they thought it was a good piece of work, so I am just very confused atm).
  21. In the same boat as you man - (implied) rejection from Oxford BPhil and (likely) shut-out for PhD admissions. Still waiting for UCSD, Berkeley, UNC and USC to give me the concrete rejection. Given my last three schools pending are NYU, Stanford and Rutgers, I don't have much hope for them. Really regretted chopping up my writing sample for Oxford instead of finding some shorter essay to submit; given the tepid response my writing sample has received from PhDs, it probably became a lot worse when I chopped it up.
  22. @Coconuts&Chloroform Just heard back from the DGS - it turns out you were partially right, and I am simply in some pool of students who may be reconsidered for acceptance, though this is contingent upon the initial offer-holders deciding to reject their offers. If a wait-list is waiting2 I think this is waiting3... On the bright side: not an outright rejection (for now)!
  23. I sent off an email just asking whether this is some sort of wait-list, and what might affect their decision to have a second round of interviews... fingers crossed.
  24. I feel like I just keep having these weird situations - first with WUSTL (still an enigma) and now with this. Do you think it's a good idea for me to just ask what might affect their decision to have a second round of interviews, or should I just thank him and wait?
  25. Thanks! I was just thrown off guard by the phrasing - am I safe to assume I am on some wait-list? Should I clarify whether I am indeed on a wait-list? I basically inquired about the status of my application because first-round decisions are usually made mid-February, and asked whether I could know the current status of my application or when it will be out.
