Any updates from the University of Washington? Or is it completely nonsencial to expect something positive at this point?

UW has their visit event later this week. Acceptances went out over a month ago mentioning a very small class of admitted students (10). I would place hope elsewhere at this point.

Thanks. I kinda needed to hear that. With the two rejections and one waitlist I’ve started to kinda feel like I’m spiraling out of control and need to do something to ground myself.

I know that what I said above is kinda crazy, but honestly I just wanted to do something proactive instead of sitting around doing nothing and waiting, that part is killing me.

thanks for the reply! I’ll take it to heart!

What I had to do two years ago around this time was start thinking about contingency plans. All the places I had applied to where looking like rejects so I scoured around for terminal masters programs that hadn't closed their admissions yet. Luckily, there was one at my Alma Mater that was open and had a pretty good track record of getting their grads into good phd programs or related industry jobs. It ended up being a great (albeit expensive) decision as now my application was more rounded out with a masters + 2 years of pretty focused research. I have an offer from a T25(ish) now and couldn't be happier. That all being said, 2 years of unfunded grad school doesn't make sense for just anybody and there is lots of wisdom out there that suggests those terminal masters are a waste of time. You have to decide for yourself.

Long story short, there's nothing you can do about the applications you sent out. It might be helpful to focus on other things/work on backup plans in the meantime. Both your current sanity and your future self will benefit from this approach.

Anyone there still waiting to hear from UC Berkeley? I see that many have posted their rejections and acceptances. Still waiting to hear about mine (for CP)..

I would be cautiously optimistic that you are on some kind of soft wait list. Or at least made it past the first cut. They sent out a ton of rejections (including one for me) a few days ago.

Yeah, Brown's rejection letter seems polited now ... At this moment I'm kinda anesthetized with all these rejections, so I laughted when I first read JHU's "tweet".

Right there with you. 'tis only a slight scratch on an already gaping wound. We can only assume a more thorough letter is on its way, I believe in years past they snail mailed an actual letter of rejection.

Today I've received formal rejections from MIT, Cornell and Stanford. Yale was probably my best fit, and it seems that I won't even be waitlisted there. So far, I'm all rejections this cycle: 10/10, with 5 more to go (Penn, Harvard, JHU, LSE and Oxford). As it seems obvious that my chances of being admitted at these schools are definitely slim, I'm wondering whether I'll apply to other programs (Blavatnik School at Oxford, Brazilian Studies at King's College, perhaps The New School).

In the same boat. :/ Trying to keep my spirits up this weekend as I wait to hear back from JHU, University of Washington, UCSB, and UCI. UIUC hasn't sent a formal rejection yet but I've crossed them off in my mind. The only true rejection I've gotten is from UW-Madison but I'm so crushed by not hearing any good news that all seems lost. Looks like I'll be heading back to my directional state school for a masters.

    Thanks!

I had no previous contact with anyone there, it was pretty out of the blue.

To be completely honest, I'm not sure. I kinda changed it around depending on the application and I've been on mobile all day so I can't check, but if I had to guess it would be something like comparative/international relations.

    Thats....impressive. I admire your lack of try-hard ;)
