MFA 2017 All Art ADMISSIONS freak-out forum!!!!!!!!

Hey all. I emailed and basically I was told that all the awards had been made already, and that I wasn't eligible for any funding. Also, I asked about in state tuition and even if I paid for the first year I would never be eligible for in state tuition even if I went to school there for a year. The only way is to live there for a year, and re-apply. I've inquired about work study and am waiting for a reply. But yeah, advertising on the site that generally all students get some form of aid, and then expecting someone to pay $33,000 a year in tuition is a bit.....yeah....Not happy. But thankfully I got another offer and am moving on.- 2,106 replies

Thanks vespertine, it's just disheartening because their website says " Currently, nearly 80% of graduate students in the Art Department receive full funding in the form of fellowships, teaching or project assistant positions. The remaining students generally receive partial funding in the form of scholarships. Fellowships and assistantships include full tuition remission, a monthly stipend, and generous benefits, including health coverage. " . And then nothing.....Ugh. I figured I would be at least one of the "remaining students to get partial funding", but nope, and with a tuition of 32,000$ there's just no way.- 2,106 replies

Also. I got into my top pick U Wisconsin Madison, which I thought was a fully funded program but I ended up getting nothing. Even though my EFC was actually 0 since I'm poor as shit. Is there any other route to get funding for tuition, or should I just cross them off the list?- 2,106 replies

Hey @chikapea . I see you've interviewed at UCSB already. I was never contacted by them so looks like I can scratch them off the list.- 2,106 replies

@gwahr1 I printed out some paragraphs talking about my process, and my latest works just in case I blanked. I also printed out a list of books, and others who have studied similar ideas. I actually talked about my work and recorded it, and then transcribed it so it would sound conversational. From this you can make some bullet points outlining major trajectories ideas, etc. As well as the usual "what will you add to the program" . I really have to concur with others here that these interviews seem to be more about getting to know you, rather than the work itself. Remember they probably have the work, your statement, and transcripts in front of them while they're interviewing so be prepared to answer any questions about that. The other thing, is I'm dubious about how important the interview is actually in making final decisions. Unless you act like a total nutbar (which I think I probably did) I wouldn't worry about it.- 2,106 replies

Got interviewed by my top pick last evening, but the professor I want to work with wasn't present. Do you guys think I should email him? There's only 4 people teaching painting there. I meant to mention who I wanted to work with during the interview but it just flew by and was over before I knew it. Thanks! Freakout commencing! <3- 2,106 replies

Hey all, I've been shortlisted to interview at CU Boulder's MFA program. Any tips or suggestions about how to approach these interviews? Any idea how many people are interviewed at this stage? Things to avoid, things to highlight?

Hello all, I've been shortlisted for an interview in a week for an MFA painting program. Any idea how many people are generally interviewed, and what those interviewing are looking for? I've heard wildly different things from the idea that this is a "welcome to the program!" interview that is difficult to screw up to the idea that the interview is what really gets you accepted (showcasing an ability to speak about your work) . There's three available spots in the painting/drawing department so I'm guessing they would interview perhaps 12 to 15 people? No idea. So any insight would be greatly appreciated.
