I'm sure that Amy Wilson, whose email is listed on the FAQ and contact page if I remember correctly, could answer questions about this. I feel satisfied with the info above, that is, satisfied as in completely deflated.

this seems like something that we should be able to verify. I'm not a fan of rumors.
I tried getting in touch with my university's coordinator, but he is out of the office.
Does anyone have a phone number for someone at the Fulbright Hays office, where we might be able to call tomorrow? (I assume it is already closed today.)

    Hi Qahira,

I didn't get that impression from the article -- especially where it says "Ohio State was expecting to receive $3-million for these programs in the current fiscal year, says Mr. Brustein. He is contacting members of Congress in hopes that the cuts can be reversed, though it's unlikely lawmakers will make changes in the plan at this date."

Either way, I agree with you ... even if I weren't to get it and even if it were for next year, since my research is international, this will affect my research in one way or another now or later.

Now I must get back to waiting ...

Yes readtiwin it is highly possible and maybe even likely. I sat on the alternate list for JET for a whole year. Don't make the same mistake I did. That year was hell because I didn't let it go. Do yourself a favor: let it go assume you've lost it And move on. Then if you get it, it'll be a pleasant surprise and if you don't then you're not hanging out in limbo for the next 6 months. Trust me when I say you don't want to do that to yourself.

Didn't get it. for the second year in a row.

The Spanish Fulbright Commission can officially go fuck itself.

Best of luck to everyone who is still waiting to hear.

The notification dates for Indonesia on the spreadsheet do not look correct. Did something happen?

Does anyone know anyone else who is an alternate for Indonesia that is not listed?

Regardless of intention, it was incredibly rude to Crimsonengineer, who has put in hours of work into something that we have all benefited from at no cost to us. I'm embarrassed that someone who is educated well enough to make it as far as a Fulbright finalist would chose to use an offensive, ableist word like "retarded.' I suppose it's just further proof that the anonymity of the internet allows people to show their true colors without fear of consequences.

Thanks, Crimson, for all your hard work.

....of course, the best way to get country-specific advice on social/poltical situations and the Fulbright Program, I'd advise you to email your Regional Head. I was in contact with Jermaine Jones with these issues last year and he was very helpful.

In my (admittedly limited) experience, Fulbright will continue to award grants even in the presence of unrest. HOWEVER, once you "win" the grant, social conditions will have to improve before Fulbrighters can actually go to the host country.

Egypt last year is a good example: they awarded in June, but most/all of the granted ETAs were ultimately re-routed to Jordan, Morocco, etc. Research fellows did head to Egypt to begin their projects but were ordered back after the Revolution began in January. They will hopefuly get to complete their Fulbright terms once the State Dept. ends its travel ban.

As a fellow applicant to a country with some "interesting" times of late, the best barometer I can offer you is to keep abreast of what the State Dept. says about travel to your country. Fulbright (and many other granting agencies, for that matter) will not disburse funds for a country under a "Travel Ban," or in the event of an "Ordered Departure" of American citizens. Should neither of these Travel Warnings go into effect, though, Fulbright IIE will likely diburse awards.

The silver lining, however, is that Fellows are still "awarded" the grant even if travel is impossible--- but this would create a new kind of limbo where you would have to wait out a Travel Ban before beginning your work.

    Hope this helps

I fixed the first two rows. It's not f-ed up. Yes it is when stupid people do stupid things. How about you just don't look at the retarded spreadsheet?

That's another option than doing away with it. There are some people still waiting for notifications who can use this "retarded" tool.

I have been keeping myself pretty calm considering the facts. Today I opened my mailbox and saw someone else's ESPN sportsmagazine taking up the whole thing. I pulled it out in disgust, only to find that there was a LARGE MANILA ENVELOPE behind it!

Full Grant to Ukraine. What can one even say?

I think its time we can stop calling it a "correlation." I've looked over similar forums dating from the last three years, and I've yet to find one concrete instance that was not based on heresy in which someone who never got a transcript request ended up being selected for the grant. It seems a shame to get people's hopes up, especially when all the evidence available to us indicates that a transcript requests will be issued to those who have made it to the second run (and vice-versa, a request will not be issued if you're no longer under consideration).

This is highly dependent on the country you apply for. I was in this situation last year--- I applied for Fulbright funds to cover the costs of a language program. I wound up not getting into the program and emailed my coordinator to pull my name from consideration (I was a finalist at the time). He assured me that the Fulbright Fellowship is NOT contingent on entry into a separate program (even though my statement explicity said I wanted to use the funds for it.) If I was awarded, he told me, they would help place me somewhere else.

This policy might differ by country... definitely contact your coordinator. But Fulbright Funding is not necessarily conditional on admittance to a program... even if this program is part of your proposal. IIE can help with placements when extenuating circumstances arise.

Now, whether non-admittance to a program negatively influences one's application remains up for speculation. In the end I was not selected for a Grant. But then, I'm not so sure my country accepted any language grants last year.

Well, if your grant proposal included coursework at a specific university than yes, from what I understand, you have to be accepted in order to receive the grant. From what I understand if you are granted the award, it will be conditional upon your acceptance by the university if that was what you used as you affiliation in your application.

That is what I was told, but you might want to check with your country/regional coordinator just to make sure, it may vary country by country. Which country are you a finalist for?

    Good luck!

ReadtoWin I completely identify with your level of excitement and passion for the fulbright fellowship. Actually I just finished reading the 2010-2011 fulbright orientation handbook haha. Obsessed much? But try to focus on other things to take your mind off of the angst. To be honest, coming on this forum might not be that helpful. The amount of stress and anxiety from our fellow finalists can only make matters worst. I know this website certainly stresses me the hell out.
even still I can't stop myself. sigh
