Has anyone heard back from York yet? I know someone had mentioned earlier in the thread that advanced standing applicants are supposed to hear this week and 2 year applicants next week. Does anyone know from previous years whether they send out offers, rejections and waitlists all in the same couple weeks?
-
My bad @emmasw ! I was wrong about York.
-
I believe U of T is 120-140, York is 25 and Laurier (I didn't apply here so can't say for sure) but I think is also about 25.
-
I'd heard that waitlists are generally half of the program's actual size, but I'm not sure how accurate that is. U of T doesn't reveal much about their waitlists.
-
I really hope not. From what I've read online, it sounds like administrative staff are not striking. So long as decisions have been made by committees, admin staff just have to send them out.
-
I just spoke to my friend who did her MSW at Windsor and she said didn't hear anything until late April/May.. and she wasn't on the waitlist. My email from Erica only said the following: "At this point we are aiming to have decisions and offers made by early spring. We received a high volume of applications this year therefore the turn around time will be a bit longer than previous years." When does early spring start? Update: she said UWindsor does rolling admissions that start in early April and go out in small batches.

This also makes total sense and doesn't surprise me one bit. Lol @ "academic inbreeding". On another note, thank goodness it's March... one month closer to the end

This is so kind and well said! I can't help but think how unethical it would be for any university to bypass extremely qualified applicants simply because they'd done their undergraduate degrees there. If anything, I would think that a university with it's own best interests in mind would snatch them up because they want the best, most qualified students to represent their institution in the workforce and uphold their reputation. But I could totally be wrong - I just hope this isn't the case!
-
Thanks for this Now I can relax a little more.

Based on what other people are saying I don’t think u of t has finished sending out offers. I read on last years forum that they do two waves. Yours could still be coming ?
-
For the 1 year or 2 year program?
-
I do believe that the standards of admission are somewhat lower than other MSW programs so if you far exceed their minimum requirements, then you have a good shot. My friend just finished her MSW there and said practicum opps were terrible (I'm from Windsor and can speak to the lack of employment opportunities there in general) and the program was incredibly easy compared to undergrad. But still, you come out with an MSW. The good thing is that you can do your practicum elsewhere.
-
For sure. I feel your pain! I'm also waitlisted but at Carleton. Did you happen to make it off Windsor's waitlist? I also applied there and have no idea what I'm up against.. doesn't seem like too many people apply there.
-
Truly. Did you apply anywhere else this year? You're a 2 year applicant right?
-
I know it's so tough but it's not a rejection!
-
Whoa thank you for sharing this! It's my second time applying to an MSW program and I feel that as time goes on it will only become more difficult to measure up to/stand out from everyone else just because of the sheer number of people applying.
-
Ah man that's too bad.. I knew they'd received more than in previous years but I wasn't expecting double! It's crazy to think of all the people who are applying for the second and third time and how each year their applications get stronger and the competition becomes even stiffer.
-
Also for the two year people on here who applied to York, the grad admin said decisions will all be out by mid March so only a few more weeks!
-
Angela said that decisions for the 2 year program at U of T will be mailed out mid April, so I’m not sure now after reading your comments whether that implies we won’t be receiving ANY news until then. If that’s actually the case, they’ll be the last university (it seems) to send out offers meaning many applicants will likely have accepted offers elsewhere.
-
Totally the same! I'm waiting on York, Windsor and U of T for their 2 year programs.. Angela just told me no news until mid-April. Could be something she's saying so that we don't expect anything sooner than that.
-
I'm hearing a few conflicting things from their admissions department. When I spoke to Stephanie on the phone last week she said all decisions including waitlists, rejections and offers had already been sent out. I'm confused
-
@GradMSW I think that advanced standing applicants miiiight hear a bit sooner than mid March.
-
I feel you! I've already bugged her a couple times. I'm not sure she's sharing any information about how many people get on the waitlist but if Carleton is anything like other schools, their waitlist is likely half the number of those who get admitted (25). It doesn't hurt to ask, you may just get more information further down the line. Those who were accepted have 21 days to accept their offers so we can rest easy knowing that we'll hear nothing at least until end of March. Sucks but I have the same hope as you! It seems like Carleton is the first choice of few so we may get lucky
-
Also, I just reread on their website that they let 25 people in for each stream so I'm wondering how many people get waitlisted for each. It can't be 40. Have you heard anything ?
-
I noticed that, too. Mine hasn't changed from "review in progress by department" even though I was told I got waitlisted yesterday. Maybe just a glitch in the system.. or by some miracle they accidentally sent me a waitlist email haha.
