  1. Aw sorry! How stressful to find out this way before having access. Can I ask what province you're in? Please do something special for yourself anyway. We got this far from working hard and putting in a lot of time and effort.
  2. Seems like more direct applicants were notified today and yesterday. I would also guess that direct applicants are less likely to check this forum compared to those of us already in grad studies. So maybe significantly more rejections that simply weren't posted here (success rate for 1st year as been 15%).
  3. I don't go to U of T, but my university which is also quite large, claims they didn't get access to the portal today. Or at least it was not shard with individual programs yet. So I would still have hope that these individual winners heard from SSHRC directly and not from their institutions.
  4. My last theory, sorry if I missed this in previous messages, but do we have evidence to suggest they are going by institutions? The file numbers don't seem to say too much.
  5. So the last 4 digits maybe represent to total number of applicants -- 2584? My last 4 digits fall towards the end of the total number of applicants. Not sure if the last 4 digits of others also follow this?
  6. Do you folks think there are any concerns with attempting to sign in before being assigned an account by email? I'm committee 5, and seeing some presumable committee 5 winners here post is finally starting to make me a bit anxious! Also the fact that it's Thursday afternoon and still no sign-in email is making me feel like some of us won't hear until late Friday.
  7. I don't think this applies to OGS/SSHRC communciations, many schools still haven't announced OGS winners. Though like in QC we can't hold OGS and SSHRC together.
  8. Ahaha yes exactly. We haven't quite cracked the code yet. Has any received login info today?
  9. So what we know is that some people got log ins and others haven't (I haven't received a log in yet). A lot of direct applicants and students internationally mentioned getting logins yesterday, and a few various schools with quotas in QC and the prairies (did anyone in ON get a login yet?). Some rejection letters and acceptance letters posted. For those of us who haven't received our logins yet, I think we can't infer anything at all from this so far and need to hang tight. It's look pretty random! Hopefully we all know by later today?
  10. I could be wrong, but I think committee 6 is a new extension of the previous mega committee 3? I only remember committees 1-5. As quota applicants we can pick our preferred committee, however SSHRC can ultimately change you to a different committee if they think it's more fitting. I am someone who falls between three committees so it was very hard to pick one.
  11. Of course! Thank you for the positivity : )
  12. I know that my supervisor will have direct access to the portal whenever the results are shared with universities, but at the same time, if I lost, I don't want to put that on them to tell me. Also if I won, after three years of rejections/waitlists, I'd like to find potential winning results directly from SSHRC ?
  13. I can confirm that my last name is at the top of the alphabet but no SSHRC emails yet for me! Wow the suspense is really hitting me now. I don't believe they would ever send to winners etc first, I'm sure they are following some sort of list/committee.
  14. You can see how many doctoral SSHRCs were awarded to your specific institution last year, and any given competition year, here: https://www.sshrc-crsh.gc.ca/results-resultats/stats-statistiques/index-eng.aspx
  15. Does anyone know, for the NSERC folks, once they were notified about the Extranet portal and asked to register, how soon after were the results released? I am wondering if we will be asked to register and then wait another day for results, or if we will register and find the results right away? At this rate it feels like we won't know our results until Thursday.
  16. I think you're correct, CGS is for those entering year 1, 2, or 3. Students currently in year 3 and up only eligible for 'small SSHRC'.
  17. Is it also the case that CGS-D is only offered to 1st and 2nd year students? Or is it awarded at higher levels as well (year 3, 4 etc)?
  18. Hi everyone, I am writing this post to get some insight on how MA/PhD students in Canada are feeling/thinking about applying to either the regular CERB or potentially the student CERB for this summer. Presumably if you had a TA-ship or RA position that ended in April, you likely meet the 5k earnings threshold, and if you don't have full time summer employment, you would maybe be eligible for the regular CERB 14 days following your last day worked, since CERB doesn't consider your educational status (as far as I know, grad student eligibility is still confusing/unclear and developing). Are you thinking of applying to CERB/ student CERB, why/why not? Please be kind. This thread is not for judgement or for shaming. Many grad students struggle over summer months and this can be uncomfortable to discuss with peers. So here is a thread for people to discuss/ share/ vent/ offer resource guidance.
  19. Any wild reality where today's announcement from the feds trickles down to SSHRC awarding more applicants?? - extend expiring federal graduate research scholarships and postdoctoral fellowships, and supplement existing federal research grants, to support students and post-doctoral fellows, by providing $291.6 million to the federal granting councils. In addition, the government intends to enhance work opportunities for graduate students and post-doctoral fellows through the National Research Council of Canada. https://pm.gc.ca/en/news/news-releases/2020/04/22/support-students-and-new-grads-affected-covid-19
  20. My guess is the application could reappear under " List of Application Forms" since there is an "action" column. Good luck everyone! edit: I thought I saw Vanier dates for students to accept was April 22, I think SSHRC is almost always after Vanier students confirm, but I could be wrong if anyone knows better?
  21. If it helps, your SSHRC score is made up of 2 scores. In the past couple years when I was rejected/waitlisted (with a low score each time! 10ish) I was surprised that one committee member would give me a high enough score to be awarded (6.5), and the second committee member would give me a really low score (3.6) (up until a 2.9 point difference between members doesn't require a committee review per SSHRC rules). So we may have one member who loves your project and a second member who just doesn't. I try not to take the score too personally. To a certain extent it comes down to the reviewers subjective take on your project.
  22. Last year the provincial government was quite late in notifying schools there annual quotas, so I wouldn't be surprised if this is the new normal. A lot of schools are saying mid-May for OGS results this year. Not sure if this is still the case this spring (re: late communications between province and schools), but I wouldn't expect to hear back this month (though that would be nice!)
  23. We now have up to 4-5 weeks before we get our results (either by snail mail, or by email from your institution if they decide to). So far no changes from SSHRC on timelines. Past couple years SSHRC has waited until last week/last business day of April to mail results. I hope everyone is doing well while we anxiously wait our results during these difficult times of the COVID pandemic. Maybe SSHRC will surprise us and send them earlier, who knows. Wishing everyone success on your applications!
  24. It's not renewable, but as mentioned above you can reapply and hold it up to your 4th year if you're continuously successful in the competition on a year by year basis. There is no guarantee, but you can reapply every year until year 3.
