  2. Ya! That's why I got confused LOL Uoft uses ACORN and york uses myfile but no worries- we all know who was talking about what

  5. You're not stupid! We're human and we make mistakes- remember that You said it said decision made on your SGS page? Mine recently changed a few days ago! received my offer package today ! Decision made can be anything from an acceptance, wait list or rejection BUT i read above that someone got an offer even without acorn updated soooooooooo yaaaa dont trust the system LOL. you got this hopefully
  6. I guess I was also nervous since many of the people I know who did MSWs also did post degrees! Just a few who did then 2 year. Hopefully the first year of the MSW prepares us well. It’s just getting so real! We’re finally gonna be learning how to help people professionally ahhhh . I just wanna be well prepared to be a great social worker !! The new stage statement- I’ve been telling myself the same thing! How I did an undergrad and if I can get through that, I can get through this as well! Yes please! If you can ask that would be great thanks for being so helpful! May this anxiety turn into excitement & good vibes for all of us! I appreicate everyone taking the time out to making me feel better ! You’re all amazing
  7. Funny how so many of us in Toronto are still waiting for ours LOL
  8. Thanks swag master! Your words really helped - and I guess so! I guess now that it’s all happening I got afraid (especially now that it’s a graduate degree) thanks for taking the time out in replying anencephaly giving me some encouragement - I appreciate it you’re gonna make a great social worker one day
  9. Hi friends, i need help with something because it’s driving my anxiety levels to increase so here I go: someone from macs post degree BSW program told me that it wouldn’t be wise to go directly into a 2 year msw program after undergrad since apparently some organizations said that they don’t think 2 year msw graduates are ready to counsel and work in the field. Do you think it would be wise to do a post degree and then a msw ? Or go directly into the msw? I’m really scared to enter uoft because of its clinical framework as well- but also whether or not the profs are supportive - my ultimate goal is to work with youth and young adults with mental health and I know a few people who have done so in the social justice and diversity stream. I also had accessibility at Ryerson where I did my previous undergrad and they were so amazing in providing accommodations & I really hope uoft does the same. Am I the only one whose this nervous and worried? Or are a lot of you on the same boat? Im waiting to hear from york & mac for their post degrees but let’s see what happens ; my anxiety is is blowing the roof off
  10. Hi! I didn't do my program there - I actually applied for fall 2018 (got accepted) but will be attending uoft instead Apologies from my post earlier: I meant that those who go to Orillia can do their placement in Toronto but its still competitive overall to get a placement there due to the numerous schools who have priority. HOWEVER they said their practicums in Orillia and Thunderbay were phenomenal and helped them get jobs after graduation but also secure spots for MSWs. My mentor (lets call them X) who went to Orillia actually went said that their cohort this year faced numerous issues in the structure of the program; they said that there were somethings they didn't agree with that the orilia campus especially the way they were taught so they would recommend the thunder bay campus. Although Orilia is small, it requires permission from thunderbay for everything! X said that overall, Lakehead does an amazing job providing accessibility. X said that they definitely learned alot and it challenged them in ways that their previous education didn't. They were very interested in going because of their emphasis on a framework that was general and did a little bit of everything; from the entrance test you could have assumed that! Orillia also has an emphasis on Indigenous education but Lakehead overall supports it and the rural pop; so you'll get a fresh point of view on many social issues! hey said that they have a floor that is specifically for social work students so they got really close to the cohort and you spend time with them everyday so you bond and get so many chances to meet with them for presentations and other stuff like that. They didn't know about the whole social work floor being on one level for thunderbay but definitely look into it BUT overall since both campuses are small; you get to know your peers very well and quickly you become a family. They said lakehead overall does an awesome job providing a class about interviewing and counselling; professors are amazing. There are professors who have diverse backgrounds in social work education so you can talk to them and they are very approachable especially when asking for their opinions or help; the fact that both thunderbay and orillia have small class sizes really helps. They don't have an emphasis on research ; its super diverse - they are working in mental health so theyre with an organization for their practicum that meets their goals. I also saw above that you were looking at a program that would provide you with clinical skills- lakeheads doesn't focus on clinical but they equip you well for counselling! usually MSW programs focus on clinical work but no doubt you'll pick it up If you feel hesitant about lakeheads program, also look into the addictions and mental health program at humber! they combine both AOP and clinical so its a good balance!! but I say go for the HBSW- mentors said that its alot of work especially cause its crammed up in a year but itll open doors to other programs & your profs will guide you every step of the way!! I hope that helps
  11. you definitely do not sound like a broken record! more like an inspiration- especially for other msw students and applicants who also have mental health and health issues. I personally, have both as well and knowing that you're coming into the program with such immense empathy and compassion gives me hope in the future of social workers but also how wonderful it would be to have discussions with you in class! I'm happy you found the tools of self care which work for you knowing how to cope but also what works for you is definitely key! healing is a process but you made a choice to make it happen and I'm so happy to hear that but also how self-aware you are. Definitely will be an asset during your time at uoft. Funny thing is, even my therapists were MSWs from uoft! how impactful they are eh-really makes you work even more passionately towards your goal. So happy to be meeting you this coming fall!
  12. Oh okay! thank goodness LOL. i got worried. what even is proof reading in timed exams LOL. i hope that bottle of wine helped haha
  13. Hi there! Congratulations I'm so happy to hear you got into Laurier- that is phenomenal!! I hear its very clinical (more than uoft) but you learn alot and the faculty is spectacular One of my mentors really wanted to go there for her first choice but didnt get in so she went to uoft for her msw. Prior to applying, I talked to a few people who went to laurier for their MSW and they said they had no issue getting a placement in Toronto! After Uoft, it is typically laurier who get options for placement opps as well, given its remarkable research and theory reputation. A few got placements in Peel, some in hamilton, the university of waterloo as clinicians but it definitely doesnt influence your status after graduation! its like a golden stamp on your resume and education as well
  14. She said the same exact thing to me too! We shall be fine my friends so happy to finally meet my tribe <3
  15. Hello! Also look into lakehead's post degree HBSW- its 1 year and you can do it either in thunderbay or orillia but if you go to thunderbay, you can do your practicum in toronto- it's a general social work degree so you focus on various practices! They look at your last 10 full time credits, ask for 2 references (one professional or voluntary and one academic) and you do an online social work test! it's around 3 hours and tbh not that bad- DEFINITELY NOT LIKE MCMASTER'S SWAT. feeel free to message me if you're interested
  16. Hello! Wait what? What exactly do we have to do for this designation? 2 years from now lets say one is done their MSW, they'll have to write a test to be designated? I'm a bit confused- would you be able to elaborate if that is okay? I wrote the lakehead admissions test which was soooooo much better than the mcmaster SWAT...I wrote it on wed from 3-6 pm and man, those 6 hours were NOT enough. I had a breakdown because I just didn't know how to write it especially the word count.....they were so tough- especially how you would advise each party....definitely didn't get into mac lol. couldnt finish the last question either
  17. Hi there! I got the same message Congrats on getting admitted! Wishing you all the best ^___^
