Hey hey.
I received notice of funding today. It's for the Human Rights program. I got $15k for a fellowship. Hope you guys hear back soon. Also, what made you guys apply to the Humphrey school?
Congrats @BintGherian ! I hope our decision is not too far out, so I can take a call based on my finances.
I have applied to the MPP program, and want to specialize in STEP. I didn't apply to the MS-STEP program because I noticed several of the courses were a repetition of what I have studied already, and there was no mechanism to replace most of the courses with other electives.
I chose to apply to Humphrey because:
- I really want to start my Master's in this academic year, and Humphrey seemed like a safer bet, even while maintaining a good international reputation for the program.
- The cost of the program is not too high even without funding. It helps that the School has enough funds to give out too.
- The research at the university, especially in the STEP domain is very relevant to my work experience, and many of the professors are concentrating on India for their ongoing projects (so, pertinent to my home country's interests too).
- The admissions office is extremely patient with my incessant questions, and are dedicated to making me feel like I belong in the program - something I truly appreciate, and I did not receive from the bigger names like Harris/SIPA/Georgetown. Moreover, instead of selling the "name brand" of their institute, they highlighted the work going on at the place, again something that I think was unique to them, and a big selling point for me.
- Building on the previous point, I talked to a few alumni, and most of them are thoroughly pleased with the program. A small caveat they all pointed out was the dearth of international students in the program (which is important to me). I also discussed this with a few international students at Humphrey, and they all indicated that their project work with the research centres more than makes up for the lack of "international outlook" in the class, and it helps that the cohort is so small - everyone gets something to do.
- I am not interested in a career in DC, so the fact that Minneapolis employs 70% of the alumni does not bother me.
- The faculty members are highly qualified and extremely humble - and though you don't study from Nobel laureates like at HKS or SIPA or Harris, you're not missing out on much. There is a great rapport between faculty and students.
- Minneapolis, in general, is a great city for students, and very accepting too.
Of course, there are many other smaller factors. It upsets me that this forum chooses to ignore the less popular programs.

Anyone else in the same situation? I'm not sure when the status was changed because I was not checking it everyday. Just seems strange that it would happen right now, before the results are announced.Mine has changed to Online Application (filed). That's not even a listed category. What's going on?!

Those of you filling the form for additional funding, what do you plan to provide as additional information for consideration in the form?

Hey @Prester John, I think there's a compatibility issue with the latest version of Google Chrome which prevents the webpage from loading. I was able to see the page on Firefox/my phone, but the sad part is the application is still "under consideration".

As an international student, the DC careers aren't really my calling. I am putting more emphasis on the curriculum's scalability and extrapolation to the skills I need to work in my country, or in the development sector in general. I am probably going to pass up on the costlier programs in the big cities of the US and choose instead a program that gives me more freedom to explore my options at a (much) lesser cost.
I also want to study at a college with a significant international student population. The cost of the program is definitely essential, as $100k in debt in my currency is literally going to drive me insane after graduation.

I got into the MPP at GPS, and I am very excited thanks to the school's focus on S&SE Asia. However, most of their funding is for in-state students, and hardly any money is given out to international students. It might make it very difficult for me to attend the program.

Received 1/3rd funding ($15k per year). Quite a relief as Chicago hasn't given me funding, and Georgetown's giving me half that amount.

Hi @JRS218, a senior at the Humphrey school who I know received the International student scholarship that covered his entire tuition. In general, I've heard from him that the packages are quite extravagant but few in number. It's relatively easy to get a RA positions, though.
You can contact the admissions office, they're quite friendly and helpful. I've asked them all sorts of questions, and they've connected me with various people to help me get the best answers.

Gradcafe trends show that results usually come out around mid-March (15-16th).

Sigh, I received a reject. All the best to all of you who got in! It was my top choice, I'll hate myself for two days and get back to the admission process.

Probably slightly off-topic, but MIT's Technology and Policy Program (TPP) is very well funded. However, it's also very competitive.
How about Duke Sanford?

Thanks @TheOfficeFan, the points you indicate are all very relevant to my decision-making process, especially the size of the cohort. I do believe that interaction between the faculty and students is essential to my learning process.
BTW, I've heard the financial aid from UC Berkeley/Goldman is not significant. With the out of state tuition running as high as it is, what plans do you guys have?
Also, gradcafe trends show we should be expecting results in the next few days. Excited?

Sounds good. I am expecting results for financial aid later this month, I'll probably use that as my bargaining chip. Thanks! 50% would be a huge relief.

BTW did you decide to go to Humphrey?

Hey @Jhonny456&, it's going to be the same for me. It sucks a lot but I am glad I at least don't have to wait around. I have a bunch of other offers and I am still waiting for Berkeley, so let's see how that goes. *Sigh*

It was a separate letter at the bottom of the letter of acceptance. You should probably scroll down and check.

Great going man! Have they mentioned the sort of work you'll be doing or anything on the funding? BTW I was looking at your profile on the "am I competitive" thread and looks like we're very similar except in the GPA, where you're miles ahead. Still, keeping my fingers crossed.

The admissions office starts redistributing the funds after the April 15 deadline, from what I hear. I don't think we can wait on them to make the decision.
