  1. This one allows you to pick specific schools to consider. Mine will be based on whether or not they take US financial aide/loans if I decide to apply. The whole application is 60euro.
  2. You know what's funny? I was rejected from the U today, so I started re-looking at Dutch Research Masters (2 year) degrees not even 15 minutes ago. They have a program in the Netherlands called Studielink that allows you to do your whole application at once and matches you with the best program fit based on the criteria you select. How is this not a thing in the US?
  3. I would like this status, but I ran out of likes for the day. You reminded me that the VU and UvA, Utrecht, and AU-Rome are still accepting applications and accept US student financial aide/loans. I have application waivers from VU and UvA, so maybe it doesn't hurt to try. Maybe this rejection is a sign to go ahead and make the move. I wouldn't live anywhere in the USA other than Minneapolis, but I would love A'dam or Rome. The boyfriend lives in Berlin right now and he is willing/wanting to come back to Minne to be close to his family, but maybe I can talk to him about a 2 year research masters stint in A'dam or Rome...
  4. I'm 31, but the boyfriend turns 40 this year. Sometimes I wish I hadn't taken 10 years between high school and undergrad, but then I wouldn't have met my boyfriend, so I have no regrets waiting. He's the best part of my life and I would give up 100 PhD opportunities for him.
  5. If I do law school, it would be on the next app cycle and I could always apply to both. I am guaranteed admission based on my LSAT score (174) and extra curriculars in undergrad (Student Government Presidents are an automatic in for UMN-Law and I was a Top 10 Student), but funding decisions have been made. I can't afford to pay for even a year out of pocket. I would love working in sports management/baseball law (either the player's union or specialty contracts for international players) in the MLB. I know the Collective Bargaining Agreement front to back. I just want to be able to write, you know? But, it's not just me that I have to think about. Boyfriend will be calling when he wakes up and we'll be able to discuss all available plans. I'm sure he'd love if I go to law school on a full-ride and go work for the MLB. I would rather get a PhD, so Monday's email will probably be the decider along with the phone call.
  6. It’s the not wanting to leave Minnesota. We want to start a family soon and I’m getting old. I can’t be in graduate school when I’m forty and expect to have a long career. I’m going to email on Monday to see what was lacking in my application and decide then if it’s something that can be improved for next year. If it is, I’ll try again. If not, it’s law school.
  7. I won't make a hasty decision. I just know that Dutch history is dying on this side of the Atlantic.
  8. Thanks y'all. I'm going to take a few days to try to figure out what I want to do. They don't have anyone that fits, which I think is the major issue. I don't want to leave Minne, so I don't know if it's going to help to try to apply again.
  9. I’m out this cycle. Big fat no from my only application.
  10. Well, you don't have to worry about me posting about it anymore. Denied admission.
  11. I've been going over all the data on the survey for the program. Either we are the earliest people to ever get rejected from the U according to the reports (earliest before now is 2/8) or we will hear good news (most acceptances are between 2/2 and 2/8). Hoping for the latter and preparing for the former.
  12. Still nothing. The emotional ups and downs can stop now. I hope it's today and not while I'm at work.
  13. They need to update. I need to know what kind of crying I’m supposed to do today.
  14. I went social studies ed (then observed a high school class and said...no thank you) then poli sci and then finally settled on history with minors in foreign languages and poli sci. We're all humanities here.
  15. Honestly, now that it's close to knowing, if I get in, I will cry then leave work and go to IKEA because I need a new desk.
  16. Oh, I know. I just want to start preparing myself. There is a colloquium meeting I really want to attend on the 21st ("Poetic Riverscapes in the Early Middle Ages") and I need to know asap so I can either schmooze or say thank you. I also need to know if I need to start working on a new early modern outfit. They do a volunteer outreach program with local junior highs here. Early Modernists dress in period clothing and talk to students about life in Europe in the period. They have now started to include an astrolabe in the program. It will take me awhile to sew a new dress if I get in.
  17. Thank you! The only thing I would be disappointed about is that the person I really have wanted to work for since I started undergrad retired. But, I've met him for coffee and have been told in the past that he could work as an unofficial consultant if I get in. I really just don't want to have to stop going to colloquium meetings, but I think I will still go if I am rejected. They're fun and the speakers are usually great.
  18. UMN- Twin Cities, but I applied to the history program. Y'all are just fun, so some of the history people are posting here too.
  19. I wish they would post decisions as soon as they have them and not make you wait a business day. I need to know now! My status changed to Decision Made and I'm having a freak out moment at work. Decision Made - Your decision is posted and your letter will be available within one business day. You will receive an email from our office when your letter is ready to view. (You will access your letter through your application dashboard.)
  20. I’m at work today and Monday, so either way, I know I’m going to cry. I hope you get in too!

    Minneapolis, MN

Downtown, Uptown, Dinkytown (mostly undergrads). Public transportation is great here. Uptown is about 3 miles from campus and a lot of people bike it in the spring and summer.
  22. That means TODAY! Or Monday. I'm going with today. Being at work is going to be hard. It's a slow season for us, so I can be on the forums and checking email allllllll day.
  23. It just changed again to Decision Made. It's going too fast for my anxiety.
  24. It's going too fast. Decision Made...just updated again. Decision Made - Your decision is posted and your letter will be available within one business day.
