  1. Has anyone taken the stats and/or research methods waiver exams? If so how were they?
  2. Those of you doing the online program (or any program really), have you heard back about your field placement yet? I submitted mine a little over 2 weeks ago and I figure it takes some time for them to locate an appropriate place for us. Just curious
  3. I received 7.5k per semester, 15,000 per year. I think you have the most so far based on what I've seen.
  4. You'll be fine getting into a program somewhere. I came from a different undergrad bachelor of science and a BA in psychology and was accepted to my top choice. I also already work in the field so I have an idea of what to expect. I just turned 29 so getting my masters was my next step. Maybe consider volunteering or shadowing someone in the social service field? While I'm sure some can go on to be a therapist right out the gate, having some case management experience is always a good thing to have so I"m told. Then again, if you can't, you might have to do case management or something else until you can become a therapist. Burn out does happen, but that is why you have boundaries with your employer, use your sick time, and have self-care. Never work harder than your clients You can consider online programs or going part time for a program. I'm currently full time and will be doing an online program. Generally speaking, you don't want to go into a lot of debt for an MSW. The pay isn't there for a long while if at all. Are you okay starting at 30-40k? Staying there for many years? Unless you have a lot saved up, have mommy and daddy help pay for it, or some other plan you should want to go the cheapest option. In my case, I have the GI Bill, money saved up, and working so I feel comfortable going for my expensive program. However, you usually only get one masters. Go for what you want. I hope that helped
  5. My spouse is in the military. We will probably be in a different state by Spring 2019 which means I'd have to switch field placements. I'm attending Columbia's online program. Does anyone have any experience with how they are about that? Does anyone know when their field placement forms are due by if I'm starting Fall 2018? I've emailed and just waiting for a response, but thought I'd ask here. Thanks!
  6. As anyone turned in their field placement forms for foundational year yet? Does anyone know the deadline for field placement form for Fall 2018? I'm wanting to turn it in, but I'm kind of waiting to see where I'll be in September....
  7. I received 15,000. I’m online advanced clinical
  8. I don't think it is a problem to follow up on your application, but I could imagine that it comes off as pushy if you need to know because you have a deadline for another school. Then if you happen to come off as pushy to the wrong person, it would make sense that it could impact your application. It is understandable that someone needs to know and it is understandable if someone has been waiting since November/December. However, at the end of the day you can either play their game or take your business elsewhere.
  9. Has anyone already submitted their field placement form for Fall 2018 and if so did you already get notified of how their process works? Is there a deadline for field placement forms? I know it's only April...but yeah...lol This is for online programs, but curious about the residential folks too
  10. I'll be attending. I was actually surprised to receive any financial aid. Mostly because I'm married and my wife and I work full time. I still have some GI Bill left to help pay for school, but with this scholarship that really brings the cost way down. I was expecting a lot of debt, but the aid I have combined really dropped it.
  11. I got $15,000 for this academic year. I'm online clinical 2 years.
  12. Hey give it another shot when you're in a better place. They are pretty cool with you taking a break or needing to do other stuff.
  13. These are new experiences for me, so I honestly didn't know what to expect. I didn't do well in high school and dropped out of college to join the military, so I applied slightly older at 28. Honestly, I love crisis text line. I can understand the restricted way to talk to texters, but there is some room to give it a personal touch. They have specific ways to talk to high risk people and I just utilize those. I always hit up the supervisor for advice when I'm stumped with a texter and they are always super helpful.
  14. I earned an A.S. in 2013. I graduated with two bachelors in fall 2017. One was a B.A. in psych and the other was a B.S. in an unrelated field. My cumulative GPA was probably 3.8ish, but when I transferred for my bachelor degrees I graduated with a 4.0 for those. At the time of my application I volunteered on a crisis text line for 6 months, at-risk youth for 1.5 years, and worked full-time in a residential treatment facility for 6 months. I felt my "stand out" in my application was my heavy research experience though. I've been involved for 2 years and had a publication and presented posters at a few conferences. Lastly, I'm also a veteran and incorporated those experiences in my statements.
  15. Thank you! 2 year clinical program in health, mental health, and disabilities. Online.
