A point of which I'm well aware. However, being that this thread has devolved into a question of how the Ford Fellowship defines "diversity" and not on how various members of the LGBTQAI+ community choose to identify, I don't really know what kind of response you were hoping to elicit from me.
Back to the topic at hand: I believe that dwelling on who is and who isn't supposedly considered "diverse" is a super privileged perspective. I'm a black student attending a Hispanic Serving Institution, where a large majority of scholarships and awards are targeted primarily at the Chicanx student body. I don't argue for my inclusion because:
a. it's a HSI for a reason (70% Chicanx student body)
b. there are plenty of longtime existing monies earmarked for black students on a national level
Nitpicking at the definition of "diversity" seems, quite frankly, rather myopic when the point of minority/marginalized-based awards exist to combat privilege. Heck, there have been awards for women that had eligibility requirements reflecting the racial stratification of America (e.g. Junior League or D.A.R. scholarships).
The numbers of POC and indigenous peoples who ascend to post-secondary education decrease the higher you go after a bachelor’s degree; the Ford Fellowship exists to encourage us to continue on in order to increase the diversity at the faculty level (because about 60% of the tenured faculty at my HSI are white! And the adjuncts haven't been diverse either). So if you teach courses on discrimination, I am sure you've come across a lot of literature about the impact of representation on achievement.

That is absolutely not what my statement implied at all. I responded to the definition, which itself limits "diversity" to race, as if there are no other factors that could count as diverse. It makes it seem that if someone is a POC, the only way they are "diverse" is by their skin tone and the related experiences they've had as a result of that. I never once said POC and the LGBTQ community were separate entities of diversity. 

I know you probably didn't mean for this to sound this way, but the statement presumes that the POC and indigenous peoples applying for the Ford aren't also queer.

I have to say, it baffles me they don't expand this to include LGBTQ people if it is truly a diversity fellowship.

I’m planning on calling this Monday and asking about how they determine how many reviewers score each application. Will report back! 

Same, I received honorable mention and had 2 reviewers total; one reviewer that tended to rate me as "excellent" and another reviewer who rated most of my stuff as "good." And my 2 reviewers did not leave any comments to supplement the ratings *sigh*

Anyone else a little too afraid to check their email and check on the forum first to see if they should check their e-mail?? I actually changed my settings from showing previews to excluding previews so I wouldn't get that crazy adrenaline rush whenever the message does actually arrive... 

I accidentally went to the 2017 thread instead of this one and saw posts (from what would have been a few days ago) from people saying that they got the fellowship. The 20 minutes between then and now were not the greatest. It's when I have moments like this one that I worry for the future of educational research.

Sheesh! Longest week EVER! Going nuts googling everything with Ford predoctoral in it and rereading this thread again to find solace. Thanks for updates! 

I'm stress eating now.  My body can't handle this.  I just ate some Kentucky Fried Chicken, and now I'm craving a sundae from Dairy Queen.

CAN WE JUST FIND OUT ALREADY!! at this point the wait is just getting exhausting. 

Also if someone is in the process of going to grad school, wins the fellowship, and decides they will no longer be attending, that's another reason why someone would decline the award.
On an unrelated note, I really wish they would throw a plot twist at us and release the awards at night.  But I guess we'll have to wait a few more days.

This wait is driving me insane!!

It's comforting to know that there are students out there freaking out about this as much as I am XD 

Anyone apply for the 2018 Pre-doctoral Fellowship? Anxiously awaiting till March notifications, and for my recommenders to upload their letters before the supplemental deadline lol >.<
 

Feeling grateful and relieved that my 4th (and final) recommender got her LoR uploaded. I'm reading through my essays again and realizing that I could've said some things a little differently, but what's done is done. I just have to sit back, pray that the reviewers take interest in my application, and hope for the best! Best of luck to everyone.

I'm waiting on recommenders also! One of them the professor said it's already written and she just has to upload it....that was 2 weeks ago lol -__-
