  1. that would explain more than i would like to, but in any case, thank you for the info
  2. Hi there -- I had seen one or two other posts, I think back in February, asking whether or not anyone had heard anything from the M.A. program in phil at Miami Ohio. It's April 21 and, as far as I know, they haven't gotten back to anyone. I was wondering if anyone can say otherwise? Or if anyone has any related info? Thanks
  3. Thank you for volunteering! I've just wrapped up my MA in English at a top 50 program (somewhere between 40 and 50) and am deep into app season here. I'll be taking the GRE in a month (whether or not that still matters is another question), have done well on practice exams and two of my three recommenders are particularly well known in their fields. One thing I've caught flak for from other graduate students is not applying to schools below #20. While I understand that admissions are a crapshoot, I'm even more aware of the fact that the job market is anything but. I would really appreciate any advice regarding my school list and its possible augmentations, especially from someone whose gone through the admissions ringer, found their way into a top 10 and is now ABD. Thank you again!
  4. would highly recommend Buffalo. Comp lit and English tend to bleed into one another -- steven miller, david johnson and rodolphe gasche all work very specifically on Derrida Washington University in St. Louis (WashU / WUSTL) requires its Comparative Literature students to have a secondary department in one of the following areas: Chinese, English, French, German, Japanese, Spanish or International Writing. Tili Boon Cuillé, Julie Singer, Harriet Stone, Melanie Micir, Julia Walker and Rafia Zafar are professors that could be a good match with work you're interested in.
  5. jumping ahead a few months to fall 2019...does anyone have thoughts (i mean concerns here) about asking for rec letters from profs who were formerly faculty members at the school one is applying to?
  6. hello hello, admittedly i've been lurking around the lit/rhet/comp page since the summer and have now been on autopilot refreshing the results page for the last several days -- i'm also a member of the 22 club though still an undergrad, (i wouldve started kindergarten earlier if i had the choice) and am now in the extreme panic state. what i was wondering was that in the case that i do bat an impressive 0 for 11 on acceptances, what is there to do, in terms of postgrad options, that's fulfilling but also a useful CV addition if i should hope to reapply next season? it's a bit early to be thinking about this, but i've definitely put all my eggs (and savings) on the current admissions cycle
