  1. Thanks for the update. It's nice to benefit from others' impatience rather than caving to my own (or just sit here refreshing my email ad nauseum).
  2. Yep, it shouldn't affect your application. My page says that too but they told me I'm waitlisted.
  3. Same. I wasn't expecting much, my interests aren't the best fit for the department.
  4. Waitlisted at UW-Madison. One of my letter writers is an alum and he says they tend to go at least a few deep into their waitlist, so I'm definitely feeling good about this.
  5. Not quite, plenty of schools send out offers in March. NYU comes to mind. Fingers crossed for you. I don't think we're even a third of the way through yet.
  6. I've been accepted at Maryland! I received an email from the department coordinator about 20 minutes ago with the offer attached. Full support ~$20,000 for five years. I am so stoked, this is my first PhD acceptance!
  7. Generic rejection letter from Brown. Received an email to check ApplyWeb for the decision. "Please note that Brown will never email your decision directly."
  8. For an MA yes! Honestly I'm probably better off getting an MA before moving on to the PhD, and Milwaukee is a great choice for that, but I also applied to PhD programs. Are they up there for you too?
  9. I was accepted early because they're nominating me for a fellowship. They have not sent out normal acceptances yet.
  10. Sorry to hear that. We all have schools in mind that are perfect and we can't stop wondering when we'll hear back from them, and I'm sorry you didn't get into yours. I'm still waiting to hear back from a few like that I have in mind.
  11. Rejection email from Emory. It wouldn't have been a great fit so I'm not too disappointed.
  12. Rejection from Ann Arbor. I expected it but it's still a bit depressing.
  13. 6PM campus time? or 6PM your time? I'm sure each department is different so I'm not too concerned, but it seems like the time for the department sending out acceptances would be most useful.
  14. I received two rejections today, a generic email to check the website from Berkeley and a rejection email from Chicago with a referral to their MAPH program. On a lighter note, I can claim the nomination for the AOP Fellowship at UWM. It isn't quite admission, but they say I'm a "strong candidate" so I'm allowing myself some hope on that front.
  15. Damn. Congratulations to everyone who was interviewed! Being accepted to Chicago is definitely an achievement.
  16. Same. It would be fantastic to be offered admission to Yale, but I certainly don't expect it.
  17. The clearest information provided from a philosophy department regarding their admissions process comes from Chicago (http://philosophy.uchicago.edu/prospective/admissions.html) and I expect that Yale's process is similar. Based on that, I think we made the first round of cuts (whittling it down to a more manageable pile based on obvious flaws, not just GRE scores/GPA)! Fingers crossed for both of us!
  18. My writing sample rejects Ronald Dworkin's idea of 'precedent autonomy,' arguing that it has the same problems Berlin found with positive liberty and should be rejected. He was using that concept to justify euthanasia though, including for patients with dementia, and I defend his being on the right track with that justification.
  19. Don't you think we're trying? Are you doing your part? Seriously though, this is probably one of the most anxious periods of my life. I think I would feel better with just one response, good or bad, acknowledging my applications and the work I put into them.
  20. His location says Manchester, so 25' C = 77' F. Much more reasonable.
  21. Thanks, it ran me a bit ragged. Pessimism and detachment are probably the best strategy but I'm finding that nearly impossible to maintain.
  22. I'm glad not to be part of the first cuts at Yale. I know it's a long shot, but they're one of my top choices. I'd love to work with Shelly Kagan. I've been lurking here for a couple weeks. My GRE scores are good but not great: 168V, 161Q, 4.0AW (I'm told the AW doesn't matter much for philosophy admissions). My undergrad GPA is 3.79 at an unranked R1 institution, with a 3.95 just in philosophy. My main AOIs are ethics and philosophy of science, with persistent minor interests in psychology, logic, and Neitzsche. My recommenders have told me they think I have a pretty good chance, but I'm still incredibly nervous. I applied to ~ 30 PhD programs and 6 MA programs. I regret applying to so many, but I wanted to maximize my chances, and they are all programs I would be happy to get into. Congrats to everyone who has already been accepted. It would be interesting to hear from the person who got into Northwestern.
