  1. @AnnaGG Yes, it was this weekend. If you mean invited to visit but declined to come, I'm not sure, but I doubt it. ND sent out invites before most other programs sent out acceptances and fully covered travel expenses, so people would have no reason to not check it out if they received an invite. I think one or two people couldn't make it because of weather. If you mean turned down an acceptance offer, than no. Offers are not out yet. We were told that the adcomm is meeting this week. If I get accepted, I will most likely attend. The funding is excellent and the campus has so many unique resources related to research and funding. The program is the best fit for me as well.
  2. @AnnaGG The ND visit is next weekend. The interview process at ND is pretty unique/strict compared to other programs. While anything is possible, my guess is that ND won't make offers outside of the interviewee pool unless an unexpectedly high number of people who receive acceptances after the visit weekend decline.
  3. @devouee40 I know people here will disagree, but I think that considering location/family situation are just as valid reasons for choosing a school as rank. ND is #32 and JHU is #27- both are excellent programs. ND has some of the most generous funding of any program relative to cost of living, which is exactly the reason I applied. People who say that funding doesn't matter are not taking into account people's individual circumstances. Not everyone is 22-23 years old and able to move across the country to attend a T10 program. I know you mentioned that you're a first generation student. Getting into Wisconsin is an amazing achievement for anyone, but I think you should be especially proud of your accomplishment! If you want to chat about the process (or about anything!), feel free to PM me!
  4. @michelle2424 Same! I finished up my MA last semester. Did you get your flight info yet? I have a super long layover at O'Hare if you (or anyone else reading this) are there at the same time we should meet up for lunch.
  5. @michelle2424 Yes, I'll be there in February also! We have similar interests! Are you applying as an undergrad? I know tenured faculty members that got their PhDs at ND, so it is definitely possible to get a job with an ND degree. The general rule of thumb is that you are competitive for jobs at schools that are less prestigious than the one that you graduated from. You will be less competitive for jobs at T30 schools than T30 grads, but should still be competitive overall. Of course your own research/publications can make you more competitive on the job market.
  6. @michelle2424 Notre Dame is a competitive department, although it is more competitive in some areas (social movements, education) than other areas. It's not T30, but the funding makes up for that in my opinion. Are you going to visit? What's your background/area of interest, if you don't mind me asking?
