  1. I'm curious to hear more of the specifics of what you did in that interim year if you're willing to share.
  2. I'm a pastor, so I'm already pretty careful in terms of what I put out into cyberspace. Even so, I wonder if should have gone "dark" just so that conversations I have on Twitter or FB about specifics of what's happening in my denomination or current events don't jade an admissions committee.
  3. As I await responses and assume the worst, I find myself evaluating and second guessing various elements of my application and other aspects of the application process. I'd love to glean from the wisdom of the rest of you as I consider the possibility of applying for a second time next year What would you do differently if you were preparing your applications now (or what have you done differently if you didn't get in in the first cycle that you applied), in terms of: where you applied? how you communicated with programs before applying? asking/disabling social media and other online presence? elements of your application -- writing sample, personal statement, etc.? seeking opportunities to publish/present? other things I might not be thinking of? Though I'm new to the forum, I'm betting participation drops off significantly by the end of the admissions cycle, and I would love to glean from your collective wisdom here before everyone disappears!
  4. I missed that SMU/Perkins acceptance from last week. Has anyone claimed that? Has anyone else heard from SMU?
  5. Those are both great options. I’d say field, POI, and the fit of your research interest and matter the most at this point. And if the funding is workable. Duke ThD has an excellent placement rate at small liberal arts schools, especially those with “theology” departments rather than “religious studies” departments. I don’t know as much about Vandy’s placement rates, but I’m sure they are available. When considering funding, don’t forget to consider health insurance, conference travel, etc.
  6. Mine were submitted to the University and subsequently cross listed with the Divinity School. But it could be that stuff merged differently for me since I was a student there once upon a time.
  7. Mine do. I submitted mine electronically when I took the GRE in Fall 2017. Both scores and percentiles are visible.
  8. I'm sure everyone who's checking this with any regularity and applied there got the same thing, but I got a generic email about ten minutes ago that Duke Th.D. notices will go out by 5pm today. Seeing as XYPathos already got a notification re: waitlist, I'm guessing that it'll be worse news for me.
  9. Nevermind. Looks like the only Indiana update is for interviews.
  10. You can check results here and search any way you please: https://thegradcafe.com/survey/ This will give you all theology and religion results: https://thegradcafe.com/survey/index.php?q=(theol*|relig*) I do think that some folks have heard from Indiana. I can't remember about Brown.
  11. I’d really like to know what y’all are talking about, but I feel entirely in the dark. The secrets of admission, teach us you must, oh Jedi of the academy.
  12. re: Duke Th.D. -- That's my impression; especially from the post quoted above. But I'd be curious to hear more about what's going on if anyone knows. I called DDS admissions in the middle of the week last week to ask about the process, and they told me that it could be as much as another couple of weeks before various faculty had made decisions. But whoever I spoke to was the first person who answered the phone; they didn't seem to be very close to the process or have very specific information. So I'm inclined to trust @Hopeless_Academic.
  13. Congrats to all the folks getting good news from UVA tonight!
  14. I'm not sure if you think the distinction is insignificant, or if you are taking issue with my use of "non-competitive." In either case, I apologize for causing any confusion. To me, competing against multiple people for a slot feels very different than what Duke does in their process. That's all I was attempting to convey.
  15. xypathos has described it well. They only invite as many people as they plan to admit. Even so, they do not guarantee an offer of admission. It’s more like a final check of fit for both the candidate and the faculty.
  16. Yes. Duke GPR interviews are not competitive, even though an interview does not guarantee admission.
  17. That's good to know. Are ThD interviews the same weekend?
  18. This is probably common knowledge for the rest of you, but it was new to me. As I've checked the results, I've been following "religion" and "religious" and "theology" to try to keep up with the varied terminology. You can, however, put the following in the search bar to combine those searches: (relig*|theol*) That search will show you any posts that have words that begin with "relig" or "theol" and should generally cover everything related to those of us who are following this thread. The link to that search is: https://thegradcafe.com/survey/index.php?q=(relig*|theol*)&t=a&o=&pp=250
  19. I spoke to Carol Rush at Duke GPR yesterday. She said that individual fields had ranked their lists and that the admissions committee would be meeting later this week. She said notifications would go out the first week in February, but I wasn’t clear if that meant the end of this week or sometime next week.
  20. There have been several who’ve posted about CJA and Systematic Theology at ND. Has anyone heard from History of Christianity? Have things been silent for Liturgical Studies and Moral Theology?
  21. No worries. I applied several places, but Notre Dame is a strong #1. Just wanted to prepare my weekend of disappointment if I needed to! I never expected this process to be so nerve-racking.
