  1. Can you also guide me to some of the website links to find roommates that you are talking about.. that will be very very helpful. thanks
  2. Hey Ishika, I have not yet started looking for housing seriously. Just browsed few resources shared by the institute as part of U501 and by the department. I will mostly be taking an off campus housing since campus housing is on the expensive end with limited utilities. I was first planning to decide/ find potential flatmates and then go on to rigorously search for furnished apartments. What is your approach?
  3. That is great. Hope to meet you at the University.
  4. Hi Anyone joining the University of Washington in 2018? I am joining the Ph.D. program in statistics.
  5. Thank you for your reply. I am definitely more inclined towards UW myself, however, I still wanted to take opinion here since UT's stat is bayesian heavy (Not to say UW is not, in fact I feel that UW has a more balanced and diverse dept) and I am interested in Bayesian statistics. However, UT is not offering me admission in Stats but in IROM, given that I have limited knowledge of the same, I thought peers here might be able to share an opinion.
  6. Hi, I am in a very perplex situation and need your advice to take a decision: I did my undergrad and graduation in Mathematics and Scientific Computing from a leading Institute in India. Graduated in 2017 and working as an Analyst with a major European investment bank. My current research interests revolve around Bayesian statistics, statistical modeling (time series and regression) and model order selection. I do not have a specific preference between industry and academia post Ph.D. and would like to keep both options open and decide over time At the moment, I have accepts from Ph.D. programs in statistics from UW Seattle, NCSU, and OSU. I am waitlisted at UMich and will probably receive the decision next week (before 15th April). I got rejected from the Statistics Dept. at UT Austin, however a prof from the dept. has been trying to shift and get my application accepted to Information, risk and operations management (IROM) dept at McComb School of Business at UT Austin since most of the Statistics prof. are also associated with this dept. I do not have a lot of idea about the IROM dept at UT, however from initials gaze, it gives a vibe of a business school, rather than Statistics dept. One of my concerns is, whether the dept not being a pure statistics dept, Will this in any way affect my research? Or, the research/ thesis will be totally governed by the professor I am working with? Another concern is, will pursuing a Ph.D. in a non-statistics dept (although still doing statistics work) affect my chances in academia? Given my interests in Bayesian statistics, how would you rate UW Seattle Ph.D. program (pros: highly ranked [US NEWS Ranked 5th in statistics], diverse dept, interdisciplinary research) vs IROM UT Austin (pros: decently ranked in business schools [US news ranked 17th], Strong bayesian heavy statistics dept) vs NCSU (Pros: Highly ranked [US news ranked 10th in Statisitcs], very diverse dept, research triangle advantage)? I have not added OSU because I feel other options are stronger than it. Did not add UMich since I have not yet heard back from them on my waitlist status. But Please feel free to let me now your comments on the same, in case I missed something. All the opinions are welcome and will really appreciate your help. thanks!
  7. I am on the waitlist for both UW Seattle and UM Ph.D. Statistics. Request people who have better offers to please reject their offer asap so that I get the decision sooner. Thanks! Just one week to go!
  8. Anybody who received acceptance from NCSU Statistics Ph.D.? Did you get a mail titled NC State Statistics: Placements and Student Life somewhere around March 6th from the department? I am one of the accepted candidates there and apparently, I came to know today from the graduate coordinator that such a mail was circulated. It would be a great help if someone could direct message me the contents of the mail and any presentation that was circulated. If there have been any other updates from the department post the decision mail, please let me know the same. Thanks!
  9. Same here. I am also waiting to hear from UCI and waitlist from UWashington along with PhD decision from Umich. Let's hope they clear the picture atleast this week.
  10. Hey. Good to find another soul who has not yet heard from Umich PhD in statistics
  11. Thank you for sharing this. Did you get a Stat Ph.D. offer from them?Could you please share some information provided at the UW Ph.D. visit?Approximately how many students did attend the Stat university visit? How do you feel about the department and the school? I have been waitlisted to their stat Ph.D. program and have been waiting anxiously for a status update from them.
  12. Has UW Seattle announced its visit day? Can anyone please share information related to this? Thanks!
  13. Advice needed: I have a call scheduled with the Vice Chair of Graduate studies for Statistics department of Ohio State University. I have already received an offer for Ph.D. with Graduate Teaching assistantship and Fubrizol Startup scholarship. I was also nominated for University Fellowship, results of which are still pending. Did anyone receive a request for a similar phone call? If yes, can they advise on what will be the topic of discussion? Is it like an interview for University fellowship? Do I need to prepare something for this? Thanks!
  14. Yup exact same choices while I wait for few more results. But really not very positive about them. We can definitely discuss this choice in greater detail, since it will be beneficial to both of us.
  15. I have the exact same choices at the moment and similar interests while I wait for few more results. Thank you @DGcitizen for posting this. I would love to here comments on these two programs to take a final decision, if it is finally a choice between the two.
  16. Sorry to hear about this. I am getting more nervous now, since I have still not received anything from Michigan yet. With your decisions out, I doubt if there are anymore people here who are waiting for UM.
  17. I am waiting for Michigan's PhD too. I do not understand why they would start with the Masters decisions before finishing out a bunch of remaining PhD decisions
  18. Got rejected this week by phd statistics program at Columbia and TAMU. Extremely disappointed with so many rejections. I am waitlisted at UW Seattle. I am also awaiting results from phd program in statistics UMich, UCI and UT Austin. Is anybody else waiting for Umich and UCI, because I have seen acceptances from UCI and now started to see masters results of UMich coming out while I still await results for it's PhD. Program. I am getting extremely nervous since I was expecting much better results than this, but clearly my profile is weak leading to such results. It's a request to people who are accepted at UW / UT Austin to please reject the offer asap if they have got better offers. I really really wish to be a part of these schools in particular.
  19. Even I am waiting for UM decision. I have not heard anything yet. I think there was a wave of accept/reject in January end or Feb beginning and then there was another wave of rejections in February. Wondering when will our decisions be rolled out
  20. Where do you see acceptances? I saw a single acceptance on the portal. Nothing more than that I guess.
  21. Thank you for following up on this. I had a discussion earlier this week with a professor from UT and I came to know that all the admits were rolled out, however there may be a room in case someone declines the offer, will probably get the decision by next week but probably may just marginally Miss out /get in.
  22. Hey. Was talking about PhD statistics. I mailed them last week to know the status where they informed me that they are still in process of reviewing the applications and expect to post the results on their portals by the first week of March.
  23. For everyone's information: I mailed UT austin committee to understand the status of my application and also to get an idea of the timeline of decisions. They have informed that all the decisions will be finalised and uploaded on the portal by the first week of March.
