For those who are waiting to hear back with interview invitations, I recorded a podcast episode with a 3 fellow first-year GC students (all who I met through Grad Cafe!). We all matched with programs and have a semester under our belts, so we wanted to share some tips. In this episode, we talk about our personal experiences during the interviews, preparation strategies, ranking schools, the match system and much more! We created this episode for you guys to have a better sense of the application process. This is a follow-up episode to us talking about how to gather experience and complete a competitive application (episode #87), but I imagine most people in this group have already done that. Both are linked below though. http://dnapodcast.com/episodes/2018/12/30/97 < Preparing and Completing Applications http://dnapodcast.com/episodes/2018/12/30/97 < Interviews, Rank, Match We all wish we had a resource like this when we were in your shoes. Hopefully y'all find this helpful and please feel free to reach out with questions or comments (info@DNApodcast.com)! We love hearing from other future genetic counselors

Hey Kamille, For the schools I interviewed (all northeast), I had plenty of warning, around a month if I am remembering correctly. I was given dates the interviews were being held and could choose what worked best for me. Many schools have a group of interviews in the morning and a different group in the afternoon, then lunch all together. Probably depends on which schools you are applying to. Let me know if you have other questions!

Sarah Lawrence is definitely one. I'm in their class of 2020 and we have 5 Canadians out of the 30 of us, and students from other countries. Another one is the University of Pittsburgh since it's fairly close to the border. I met a few Canadian students during interviews.

Hello Fellow Genetics Nerds! I am collecting insight/advice from applicants who were matched with GC programs through a Google Form. This info will be shared in a blog post on DNApodcast.com, MyGeneCounsel.com and possibly another GC website (tbd). I think it would be great for us to pass along our knowledge and help future applicants as they prepare for the application process. Let me know if you have any questions. I would really appreciate your responses! Just click the form link below. https://goo.gl/forms/6fMPfJ7yXgcntmAd2

Thanks! That's so cool you listen! I started a different podcast before this (about the Hunger Games series, lol total nerd here) and once I had a better handle on the tech side of things I started my genetics podcast. It's been so fun having different guests on!

My Gene Counsel just posted a blog post with GC grad school interview advice from over 20 GCs. I found it to be helpful in preparing for my interviews. The most helpful tip for me, going in with 5 things you want to cover in your interview, kind of like a to-do list. It has helped me talk about a variety of experiences in my answers. http://www.mygenecounsel.com/blog-recent-posts/2018/2/26/advice-for-interviewingranking-genetic-counseling-grad-schools I also interviewed a Sarah Lawrence interviewer (Eleanor Griffith) on her insight into the application process and the interviews. It's a podcast so you can listen on iTunes (DNA Today) or on the website below. http://dnapodcast.com/episodes/2017/11/30/71

I agree with you all, I feel like it's not appropriate to ask. And I do worry they think I'm not as serious about their school, compared to others who are interviewing at a couple. In my interviews so far they have written down the names of the schools I am interviewing at. So in future interviews, my plan is to say the general area of the northeast and leave out names if I can get away with it. Definitely going to bring this up as a future GC student and say that it's an inappropriate question.

I applied for the dual program. But as someone said earlier it sounds like they are sending out multiple invitations. My email said the dates below were only a few of them, so definitely seems like they will invite more.

Hey Everyone! This is my first post in the thread. I applied to 7 schools and so far have received interview invitations from 3 schools (Brandeis, Rutgers, Arcadia). Has anyone heard back from the others schools I applied to (Sarah Lawrence, U of Pitt, BU, Thomas Jefferson)?
