  1. Fordham is still a real contender for me. It may be the best choice, depending on funding. Not thrilled about waiting a whole ‘nother week.
  2. Have some Fordham info. I emailed DGS a week and a half ago. He said decisions would be sent out end of the following week bc AdCom has decided but needed (which is now last week). When Friday arrived, I reached out to GSAS and GSAS Director of admissions. They said they were finalizing decisions. They both sent me a boilerplate response about how decisions normally come at 6 to 8 weeks after the deadline. I think I’ve officially used up all my goodwill, so I won’t be asking anymore questions until I hear from them, but if anyone else wants to shed light, I’ll be lurking…
  3. Anyone know anything about when Fordham might notify? It’s the last piece of my application puzzle and a much better commute than my other current options. I know their notifications in previous years have been all over the board.
  4. My plan is to keep some tutoring/homeschool clients I have and work my publishing contacts to get freelance gigs. (I used to work in textbook publishing.) That and summer work should make up the hit in income I’m taking. Also a switch from my ridiculously expensive private health insurance to a kickass state setup with my TAship.
  5. @maengretyes. I know it’s insane but I don’t see any other choice I’m a middle school teacher so um trying to work out a schedule 1/3 of my current load. The admin seem willing to work with me.
  6. NYU/Rutgers--how 'bout that waitlist already? And what does it mean that NYU Masters results are up?
  7. Congrats @JustPoesieAlong! I hope UGA makes the commuting situation easier. It must be a huge sigh of relief.
  8. Hey @a_sort_of_fractious_angel! I’ll be turning down Temple bc of the commute for me (North Jersey). I know you have great options to pick from this cycle too—probably Princeton?
  9. I am married for almost 11years, and I have 2 kids, 7 and 3. I will be commuting rather than uprooting everyone, although my husband offered to move to NY last night. I didn’t get into schools with a more reasonable commute so I’ll be going from northern Jersey to Long Island. I’m hoping I can limit my time on campus to two days a week. Stony Brook is also part of the problem east coast consortium so if I have to have a third day of class, I can try to do that at a closer school—there are certainly plenty to choose from. The hardest part will be duplicating my current income as a full-time teacher. I think the next couple of years are going to be pretty hellish. My husband is very apprehensive, esp about finances, but he also wants me to go for my dream. I’ve started finding ways to supplement income on a flexible schedule already, laying the groundwork early. I’ll also work through summers.
  10. I’m nineteenth century Af-Am and eighteenth-century transatlantic. Interested in cultural expressions in subject formation—minstrelsy, lit of lynching, clothing, voodoo, folklore, performance, material culture/thing theory. Accepted to Stony Brook and Temple. Received an addition Grad Council Fellowship at SB. Rejected from Penn and Princeton. Assumed rejections Yale and NYU. Waiting on Rutgers (prob a no) and Fordham.
  11. Three Rutgers results up but nothing in my regular forums about who they might be. It feels a little early for Rutgers. Do we think they’re done? Do I put this in the implied rejection pile?
  12. I’m finally starting to accept that it’s probably a no...the klonopin helped and now I’m eating my feelings ? (those feelings being anxiety at the thought of this day starting all over again tomorrow with Penn and Princeton in the running—it’s like Groundhog Day for over-thinkers and feelers)
  13. Yes! I'm waiting on this too. I think that's why I'm making myself nuts today specifically.
  14. Does that mean today?!?! I already feel like I’m going to throw up, and I wasn’t even factoring Penn in....
  15. I have convinced myself that today is going to be a BIG news day for us, one way or the other, and I am completely maniacal. Up since 4:30, couldn’t fall asleep until midnight, and making my students think I’ve got Benjamin Button syndrome cracking ridiculously childish jokes.
  16. Since we’re sharing our hellish journeys.... This has been a 10-year process for me. Three years running I applied and got shut out each year. Here’s why it was CRUSHING: As intellectuals, we are not used to basically being told, “You’re not smart enough.” Getting that message, so unequivocally, goes to the core of our identities and makes us question everything we thought we knew about ourselves. It took years for me to get my self-esteem back. Last year I applied to only two programs (ones that did not require a subject GRE bc I didn’t think I could take that). Shut out again, and I cried, but not like I did a few years ago. It lit a fire under me. I studied my ass off and nailed the Lit GRE this round. Now I’ve been accepted to one program and given an additional fellowship. I’m waiting to hear from other programs that are ~better~ but that one shot, that one person who finally believed in me, makes me feel so humbled and grateful. I hope none of you have to wait as long as I did, but I wanted to share that even tho the rejections are absolutely shattering, and even if they knock you down again and again, there’s always hope, and all it takes is one acceptance (even if it’s not this cycle). Good luck ❤️
  17. I feel like next week is going to be even more brutal for Nor'easters. There's a CHANCE the other schools in NY/NJ/CT/PA will send results, but they'll prob keep us in suspense until President's Week.
  18. Honestly, I was just so overwhelmed and humbled that they wanted to nominate me for a fellowship. This is not my first time at the rodeo and it was the first positive response I’ve ever gotten from a program.
  19. Totally soft ball. I think I brought more to the table than they were anticipating. It was just to make sure I’m not a wacko and will seem normal teaching a roomful of students
  20. Not sure if this helps, but I had a skype interview a couple days after apps were due for Stony Brook. DGS said it was just bc they had to decide on candidates for university fellowship ( in addition to reg funding package). If you didn't get an interview, I don't think it's a complete no, or a no on funding.
  21. It also seems like NYU could happen sooner OR later. I took UConn off my list since Storrs wasn’t commutable.
  22. Hey everyone! LOOOOOOOOOOOOONG-time lurker, but I'm legit losing my mind waiting for results. Anyone have inside info on when NY/CT/PA schools might send out decisions? I've checked the projected dates thread and obsessed through previous-year threads, so I know chances are 3rd week of Feb. Any other inside info on NYU, Fordham, Rutgers, Yale, Princeton, Penn?
