  1. Only a gut read but 5.5% almost surely means that people who did foreign PHDs were much more likely to get a TTP.
  2. I believe that form was sent to all applicants.
  3. I'm out of here. For personal reasons, I'm not going to share exactly where but suffice it to say that I had a very mixed bag of results including one very very unexpected rejection, an unexpected interview, 1 waitlist, a few outright rejects mostly expected (like Duke with it's 4 accepts), some implied rejects and one clear best option when balancing all considerations. Thanks for the solidarity and support!
  4. You know to be deadly honest, all I want it a note that says "No, it's over." But what I want attached is a breakdown of the number of apps, waitlists, accepts, etc. That said, I'm saddened that these programs won't take all of 10-15 minutes for each applicant to give some idea of why they were rejected and/o what might've contributed to a stronger and more desirable profile. That would seem kind and respectful and would allow us to stop guessing and maybe even better tailor our apps next time if we reapply.
  5. Was anyone here invited to UVA interview weekend? It has to be soon and am assuming invites have gone out.
  6. I would think a more general note about wanting to meet to discuss research and the field would be fine, Likely he/she will say no if unavailable. If it's a yes, then the PHD question will likely come up naturally while meeting.
  7. I'm sick of this. I'm sick of checking Grad Cafe and scanning my email or missed calls. Even checking my spam folder daily. I only have two rejections (one implied) and one interview so far but, after a good chat with a POI today (at a program I withdrew my app from), I just sort of know my own worth. And know my own weaknesses. And I sort of give up, a bit, on caring too much one way or another about where I do or don't get in. I certainly hope I get in somewhere (!!!) with funding but at the same time, the point here is to figure out how to keep going on my own path and keep doing my research, developing my writing, etc. So, I give up on one thing and totally recommit to another. Here's to good luck and happiness for all of us!
  8. Davis was not taking SC apps this cycle, IIUC.
  9. Quick question - do people here generally think Peterson's is reliable viz admissions rates?
  10. Interesting. I am digging around and noticing that many of the bigger programs (Yale, Harvard) are running sort of late with interviews this year. Wonder if the shutdown could play any role in this?
  11. Man I did not expect to get into Duke given that Petersons says they have a 6% acceptance rate but I was so caught off guard by seeing anything at all that I just feel awful today. Oh well.; 1 - REJECT 10 - ?
  12. Socio-Cultural: Harvard, Columbia, Duke, Yale, UC Santa Cruz, UVA, Berkeley, (Geography), Chapel Hill, CUNY (Geography), Tulane, LSU. That's more or less order of preference though Harvard and Yale are wild longshots and really Duke/UVA/UCSC are tied.
  13. Anybody know anything about the state of JHU? I saw two interviews posted around 2/14 and one acceptance yesterday. Assuming rejection but curious if anyone has any greater sense or details.
  14. Does anyone know how many sociocultural folks were accepted at Columbia? I've seen a few results posted here but wonder if someone caught word of an actual number from the dept.
  15. If anyone feels like killing time while they wait, I'm in a different discipline but am on this thread because I applied to Hopkins Pol Sci (poi: Jane Bennett) and could use a bit of direction. Are there other US Pol Sci theory programs with a particularly strong new materialist, etc bent? Duke comes to mind but that may be an outdated impression. Others worth looking into?
  16. I really need this to be over. I'd give a lot to go back to a time when this was all done by mail and pretty much a black box from the day of mailing until receipt of results. Sighing.
  17. I got my MA acceptance at 11 pm on a Saturday from an email to check portal. I've seen others say same here. You never know.
  18. Anyone heard from Hopkins? Looks like this Friday has been a common acceptance date in past years.
  19. Anyone here claiming the JHU interview? Curious to hear more if so and you feel like sharing.
  20. From looking around online, I do get the sense that given it's lower-ranking in comparison to many mostly conventional political science programs, some less theory-oriented folks apply to it as a backup program. Not sure how that all plays out but I'm sure you have a great shot. Good luck!
  21. This is good to hear as its precisely why I applied so thanks. My application is a fairly odd one for multiple reasons so it may be a longshot but its good to have someone confirm what I had assumed about the department. My long-term hope would be to teach in the UK, anyways, so very happy to enter into a continental/theory heavy milieu.
  22. I've done a bunch of interviews in the past and almost every single time, I felt like I blew it. Odds are good that you did at least better than you think.
  23. I have a MA in Geography and have applied solely to Anthro programs but put in an application to Hopkins Pol Sci. I know little about the dept.s ranking and or its odds. I saw on Petersons they accept about 10%. Curious if anyone here has more experience or info about getting into the department. Thanks and good luck to all. I've been through this waiting game once before and it's always miserable.
