  1. Here’s to only doing things we are really passionate about and want!
  2. Interested in any thoughts on these questions... - now that you have most of your results, are you happy with your decision about where to apply? - for those with choices to make between schools, when do you think you are likely to make a decision? - for those (like me) planning to reapply next year, will you pick different schools to this year?
  3. Waitlist is the worst. When I was applying I thought I’d rather be rejected than waitlisted, but the universe ignored my preferences. The school I’m waitlisted at seems to have a huge waitlist, many more waitlist notifications on the results page than acceptances. Thankfully it’s almost the end of March, I think in about three weeks I can assume it’s not going to happen. I mean, I assume that now, but I can’t help but hold my breath when I check my email...
  4. I actually find this the worst part of the process, I hate asking for favours like this. It seems a lot easier for those who have come out of a writing bachelors and have professors to ask as opposed to all of us working writers...
  5. There seems to be much less activity on the grad cafe forums than there was in previous years. Where do people vent their frustration?
  6. Also this one: To the poster below who is waiting on BU and NYU: I am also waiting to hear anything from these two final schools. BU Im not sure has notified nearly anyone yet (at least from what I’ve heard). NYU though feels like it’s maybe a lost cause at this point, though if that’s the case I wish they’d just let us know so I can return to worrying about run-of-the-mill stuff instead (what’s inside black holes, is this peanut butter going to give me cancer, etc)
  7. 0a/0r/1w/1p. I’ve made lots of decisions, for example I decided I am not going to spend the next month worrying about that waitlist. Unfortunately my subconscious mind went right on worrying... I’ve decided that since I’m probably staying put this year I’m going to write my heart out and live my best life until 2019 applications open. I’m undecided if I’d accept the pending decision if it was an acceptance. The waitlist is my dream school, and I have trouble compromising. I have decided, very firmly, that by this time next year I will be such a gun writer I will need to fend schools off with a shovel. I will have to turn off my phone there will be so many calls coming through.
  8. Thanks for replying Jacqui! I feel the odds are so incredibly long. Good luck with your remaining schools as well.
  9. Is anyone waiting despondently for waitlists to fail to turn into acceptances? Please commiserate, misery loves company. I don’t know what’s stronger, the happiness of knowing I was almost good enough vs the cruelty of leaving open a tiny chink of hope...
  10. This post must have been some kind of mfa rain dance because the results board has been pinging with Brown results. Hope you got good news.

Thanks for the generous offer. If I ever get off the waitlist at JHU (doubtful) then I will hit you up!
  12. UIUC has gone out someone posted they are in off the waitlist for fiction on 1 March. UVA - it seems they haven't notified yet
  13. So - Michener and JHU results came out. Someone posted this with their Michener rejection. Even NASA had some trouble when first shooting for the stars...keep writing everyone! Wise words.
  14. Today under creative writing MFA programs: "Can people who get two rejections stop complaining about the devastating amount of rejections they've received" Also today, a rejection from Michener's super competitive MFA program: "Even NASA had some trouble when first shooting for the stars...keep writing everyone! " I love all you people with pithy and elegant words to share.
  15. Posted today on Hopkins mfa results: ”I’m sick of being ghosted by men and MFA programs, so I just called them.” Me too, friend. Me too.
  16. Anyone else waiting for Johns Hopkins rejection who wants to commiserate? They seem to have sent acceptances out already.
  17. BU usually notifies later in March. Wishing you the best of luck there. There's nothing on gradcafe as I'm sure you already know.
  18. Heh! That's probably very common response, given the typical character traits of writers.
  19. No hard info but it’s very competitive to get in with funding, plus you’ll be in NYC! Congrats!
