  1. Now that I got all the results, I still don't know how I got all of these rejections , I was studying PhD in different school and the only way to transfer was applying again. I was thinking that I have high chance as a PhD student and explain it at my SOP that why want to transfer. I have 3 papers and lots of research experience so confused!!
  2. I bought mac book pro core i 7, 15 inch because for working with data and coding, 15 inch is helpful.
  3. Stanford definitely! VT is a good school not tier one! its an average program
  4. nothing means you still have chance, I got all rejections today means nothing left for after 15
  5. I am moving to Boston and I bought my car 6 month ago but I couldn't get to some pogroms and BC is my only chance, I really love to keep my car to use it at least weekends. any recommendation about parking or anything related to the car? I am searching for apartment now, coming from North Carolina with from a private apartment, have no idea if I should search for room or a studio. till now all studio that I was searching was $1500, what will be the approximate final cost that I have to pay for a studio? Thanks a lot for advice!
  6. I feel after March 15 the chance of getting admission will be about 10 percent or less unless you received an email that you are wait listed, I got 3 admissions before March 5 and 16 other applications was either rejected or under review. I called 9 under review programs this week such as Ut Austin, TAMU etc and they all sent me rejection its like they even didn't bother themselves for clicking on status part and change it before! Now I have 0 waiting program.
  7. I am completely confident that the number of entry level jobs in Texas are more than California and New York or DC, most of the jobs in Austin are Government jobs in statistics and they don't need PhD, IT companies maybe but in Dallas or Houston there are better chance. You should think about his long term goal not now! after 5 years when he will get his PhD, he doesnot want to start an entry level job with 60k-70k. Lots of BS and MS students can get the local opportunities and this is not a big deal. Maybe comparing the city and life style can help him better
  8. For industry I do not think they have much differences, as you maybe will seek somewhere like California or New York specially Wall Street etc more for risk management and finance jobs, I am definitely sure that the alumni relation for business school (Austin) is not high as their engineering school also its not comparable with some around schools such as tamu. you cannot find a job easily in Austin unless you are related to music or politics :), there are lots of entry level jobs that you can find with master in Texas but job market in Austin is totally different from Dallas or Houston.
  9. Kelly, Indiana University? definitely Kelly! better research group and ranking! more suitable for academia than McCombs
  10. My main problem is that I applied for UVA both engineering and statistics department and I got both, now I am comparing system engineering in UVA vs. Statistics in BU, UVA ranking is 25 and BU is 93? something, also I won't have time to go to UVA for visit just BU
  11. would you please help me: comparing between Boston University vs University of Virginia (UVA), I see the ranking of UVA(overall ranking) is much better than BU, I don't have much information from these two and I applied as a safe place (just these two admissions) out of 20 places that I was rejected.
  12. I got rejection from UCSC, admission from Boston university and Virginia university.
  13. I think there is no role for being international but I also think GRE subject has a role cause I didn't take too and no admission after applying 23 universities. not even single admission!
  14. 90 percentile on math, the professor said we admitted 7 and not likely any waiting list.
  15. maybe his quant gre is 90 percentile, this is the most thing they look
  16. I figure out today that its not background that matters, I have good background + published papers but I didn't put that much time on gre , instead I was working on a paper to submit and add it to my CV. I got rejection and no acceptance. Today I called Notre Dame university and the professor said we rejected you because we first rank based on gre then research
  17. it seems not receiving any admission letter means rejection as we are entering March. I called some universities in California(PhD- Statistics dept) and they mentioned that they already sent out the offers two weeks ago and they wont have any wait list.
