misslitty got a reaction from Phoenix88 in Too many campus visits! How many should I actually go on?
I've been accepted to 5 programs so far, and all have invited me to their grad student visit days. I have crossed one, a school whose offer I won't be accepting, off my list. With the other 4, I just don't know which I'll accept yet, they all have their benefits. I am still in school and my research lab, however, and I don't want to miss that much time to go on visits. I truly don't know how to prioritize which program visits I should attend. Any advice is much appreciated!

Ooookay I'm fucking livid and I'm mostly to blame.
F/G, E/VG, VG/VG
I'm a BS/MS student, but when I applied, I had no graduate courses counting towards my GPA. The only academic level that can reapply, as BS/MS students can, is level 1. So that's what I selected. WOW THAT WAS A MISTAKE. The ONLY negative comment on my application was from Reviewer 1, same comment for both IM and BI: The academic level is 1 for this applicant. However, she is already in here first year of graduate school.

One of my reviewers said "the proposed research is interesting and quite polished in contrast to the applicant". They absolutely tore me apart and didn't write a single positive thing. Many of their comments were just false, too, like saying that it's weird that I have not been published yet or given any presentations when I am currently in publication for two different papers, and I have given presentations?!? The other reviewers were mostly very encouraging and gave some valid criticism, which I really appreciate, but this one person was incredibly negative in a way that felt a lot more personal than constructive. Yikes....

I just got the award!!!
I'll post my statements later, I'm so excited. I've worked so hard for this day and to finally get a big payoff like this is a huge relief. Almost makes the tragic story in my past worth it.

God I didn't know this was coming soon, and had a nightmare I didn't receive it last night. That was quite an accurate prediction. Honestly, I'm crushed. Congrats to all who were awarded it!

Nothing like 'not recommended' to make you hate graduate student life and yourself.

As much torture as this is, I'm glad they are taking the extra time. I've heard people say that the panels were canceled, and other say they weren't. I hope they weren't and I hope the delay in results means that, despite the shutdown, they are taking the reviewing as seriously as they do every other year. I know this might be coming from a place of already-in-school privilege, and I can't imagine what that added stress must be, but as someone who probably put triple digit hours of work into their application, I'm in a way glad they aren't rushing this.

I emailed them last night: "Award announcements are traditionally made by early April. If there is a change that warrants notification to the community, it will be provided as soon as possible."

Anybody have an update on the GRFP panels post-shutdown? (That wouldn't be gleaned from reading the website?)
