For me it was that they had so many Deleuzians in their faculty. And I don't know if they still do (haven't checked) but you used to be able to take classes with Bruce Fink, the Lacan guy.

Anyone gotten positive contact from Fordham? I missed the rejection wave a few days ago and trying to ascertain whether that's good news or if I've just received a temporary stay of execution.
-
Duquesne said nay, but a nice email from Dr. Selcer with an MA consideration offer.
-
Chicago rejections are out.
-
Btw the lack of response my Penn State was merely a stay of execution. Got a standard rejection email today.
-
That's cruel. It takes like one click to just change a status to "Rejected." Why would a DGS behave that way? Edit: or whoever would be responsible for that
-
Same! Looking at the status tab and it's still "pending review"
-
Hmmmm seems some rejections have gone out for Penn State. Didn't get an interview request, but I also haven't been rejected yet...
-
Yeah, Contrapoints straight up quit NW and now she's a famous Youtuber. We're cutting right to the chase by skipping that shit entirely.

Northwestern says "NO THANKS"
-
Just a heads up, website says the initial deadline is tomorrow, Feb 1st!
-
I had given it a brief look but it didn't seem to match up well for me either. Thanks for the rec though.
-
As did I!

It sucks. I put in another MA application yesterday, half as a safety precaution and half to ease the tension a bit.
-
I ended up finding it. It isn't on the philosophy page, but on the application requirements for the university's page. Link: https://cas.gsu.edu/graduate-services/admissions/graduate-admissions-college-requirements/

Can't seem to find Georgia State's writing sample requirements anywhere on the admissions page. Does anyone know the page/word limit for their application? Wondering if I need to pare down my sample, and if so then by how much.
-
Yeah, the anticipation is really wearing on me. I've received no responses, good or bad, yet but a lot of my top choices should have decisions rolling out over the next week, including Northwestern.
-
BTW, I haven't seen this posted here but somebody made a pretty convenient way to search through GC's historical survey data. Nice way to anxiously kill time looking at decision dates and numbers while I wait. https://fretpwner.shinyapps.io/GradCafeStatistics/

Memphis sent me another autogenerated email they don't have my GRE score. I've emailed them twice over the last month and received no response. I called them two weeks ago and the woman said they had my score. And now I'm getting another email saying it's absent. Getting annoyed because I didn't see it until 20 mins after close of business on Friday.

I don't think so. For contrast, 99% of law schools use rolling admissions and their admissions process looks very different. It makes sense to start considering applicants early when you have a few hundred seats to fill. If you're filling 4-8 slots, however, you want to be sure you're handing them out to the best applicants which would require a look at the entire pool.

Since this an old school kind of forum, its not necessarily obvious what the best or most helpful threads have been over its lifespan. Since we're all killing time waiting for decisions, I'd like to know what older threads you're partial to.

Probably worth looking at the school placement stats. I'd go into some debt if I was reasonably certain of avoiding adjunct hell and could pay it back.

Don't really know how people do it in California without the largess of a relative, splitting rent with a SO, or having a side gig (don't even know if this is allowed?). Like if you went to UCLA, there's zero chance you can afford rent in Westwood on a stipend. I worked in Westwood, making considerably more than a stipend, and the best I could do was a 4-br with 3 other guys in Canoga Park, an hour and fifteen mins away by car during rush hour.

I wouldn't sweat it too much. I had one professor who was tardy by a weekend a couple times and I haven't had any problems that schools have cared to share with me. I think they realize that is the one thing you don't have control over so there's no sense in punishing you for it. Maybe just ping your prof with a friendly reminder the day after if they don't get it in.

That was the most mind-meltingly tedious part of the application process for me. Just pouring in so much time tracking CVs, scanning papers, only to say "I want to work with X because they work with Y and this is interesting to me."
