UCSB has already unfortunately sent out invites for both skype and in person interviews. but i think some schools are still sending out invites, so best of luck!

i had originally thought i had been rejected from virginia commonwealth bc I saw interview invites go out yesterday, but i woke up to an interview invitation this morning!! so excited and thankful!! if anyone wants to know the POI, feel free to DM me

Not yet! Last year I believe they did phone interviews prior to the in person (at least that's what it looks like according to the results page archives) and they went around during next week so fingers crossed!

Just wanted to check in and see how everyone was doing bc our thread kind of got silent for a bit as for me: I am feeling kind of sad bc two of my recent interviews ended in me getting waitlisted but I have another interview coming up in February so I am hoping to use what I learned in these first two in order to redeem myself. I still haven’t heard from over half the schools I applied to either so i haven’t completely lost hope

just got a really cryptic email from UCSB that I am on a "short wait list" after my skype interview. I am assuming this means I am not getting an offer for their in person interview, but it also said "we frequently admit from the wait list and will let you know after recruitment day" so does this mean the people who got on campus interviews have offers extended to them already? or does it mean that after they reject people after the in person interviews, I am next in line after those individuals?

Kind of along similar lines, what questions do y’all recommend for saving for in person and what questions should I ask over email before the interview if the POI offered to answer some over email? I don’t want to seem entitled, but at the same time I know that I will probably only have 30 mins in person and that is not enough to ask all the questions I want to ask. Should I wait until the schedule comes out? Or should I just go ahead and ask some over email?

Yeah I think last year someone said that they got a Skype interview for a program and didn’t get an invite to interview day whereas someone didn’t get a Skype interview and still got an invite to interview day so I think there’s definitely still hope! best of luck to you!

for mine they asked me to elaborate on prior research (what methods it used), counseling experiences, and teaching experience. they also asked what I look for in a mentor, why X school, why counseling psych, and what type of career I envision myself in. also be prepared to discuss how you plan to add to their existing work or how you can contribute to their lab after that, I had the opportunity to ask my own questions best of luck! got a preliminary video interview from UCSB and an invitation to interview day at U of Tennessee Knoxville!!

Do y'all have advice for additional questions to ask in an initial video interview besides the standard ones about mentorship style, future directions of research, and current projects?

ugh one of my schools sent preliminary skype interviews last year during this week but i haven't received any emails yet...i am hoping to hear something tomorrow otherwise it is probably a rejection
