  1. I haven't received any official letter via snail mail yet for Ryerson. I guess they will eventually arrive. Almost all the information they were going to send us is already on RAMSS.
  2. Damn, that sounds amazing in terms of what Laurier is offering. I was told 6k from Ryerson. Good luck to everyone else that is still waiting to hear back and don't give up hope. I know I'm always curious about others so I'll share a bit about my "journey" and hopefully it will help ease anxiety for people looking forward to applying next year. I finished my BSW from Ryerson in 5 years - I spent my 5th year just doing my placement & seminar course along with working full time (not in the social work field). I just got my BSW this past spring. I held off applying last year because I didn't think I was going to get any acceptances since it seemed like everyone else was smarter and had more experience. So instead I applied to a college program that only looked at your grades and had no supplementary application forms. This fall I told myself it was finally the year I was going to apply however for some reason I could not mentally bring myself to work on any of the applications. There was a mental block that was there, and I just couldn't move past it. On top of that, I had I was taking 8 courses, working a job that required overnights/rotating shifts and personal life was also getting overwhelming. Just before December I finally told myself I could not afford to wait anymore so I emailed my two seminar profs to see if I could use them as a reference. One of them had moved to another school however I was still able to get in touch with them and they were so supportive and encouraging. My other prof just never replied to the email. I was told my number of my profs throughout my BSW that references from your seminar profs will speak the most volume. So I was exhausted, overwhelmed and only had one academic reference I was about to give up again. However, seeing that I did have one professor as a reference and my professional reference I decided to apply to Ryerson. I wrote my application the night before it was due and submitted it and one of my references was submitted one month late. This brings us to today when I received a call from Ryerson this morning offering me admissions. Almost an hour later I received another call offering me a hospital placement for the program I am currently finishing up. tl;dr: Shit happens, but there is hope.
  3. I was half asleep when I got the call but I believe they just said scholarship.
  4. Does anyone know what would be considered a good amount of funding? I was so excited to get the call and now it's on to the next phase of stressing - figuring out how to pay for this
  5. I just received a called from Ryerson right now advising I have gotten in.
  6. Good luck to you too! I'm not sure how many people they accept. I'm gonna guess it's anywhere from 20-40. I went to one of their information sessions in 2015 and received a ppt from them after. I was just looking at it again now, and it said "Admissions decisions will begin to go out on the 3rd week of March" - hopefully, they are quicker this year, but this seems to fall in line with what happened last year. And yes they have rolling admissions. It was always my dream to go to UofT however at the start of this year while working in the field and taking about 8 courses I just didn't have the energy to apply to more than one school. Ryerson was also the only school that only required 2 references so I figured at least that makes it a little easier to apply there. I do highly doubt that ill get in seeing as I wrote my application on the day it was due however one can dream. Also since I did my BSW at Rye, I'm familiar with a lot of the profs that teach MSW courses and all of them are pretty awesome and their values really align with my own. They really live and breathe AOP practice. There wasn't a single point in my undergrad where I felt stressed since all the profs were so wonderful and went out of their way to be accommodating. They inspired you to not only be better professionals but people (there was no completion between our peers and we did everything we could to help each other). All the classes are interesting and engaging. I know a lot of people that want to go to UofT because of the connections they have to hospitals however I know there were a few students in my undergrad program who received their placements in hospitals. In my seminar class, a lot of my peers that were in clinical settings shared that they absolutely hated it because to them it was a toxic environment and they hated how the clinicians were treating patients. I would say the biggest downfall of the program is that there is no part-time option. You only have the 3 semesters to complete the program and if you don't finish your research paper on time and have to stay an extra semester you have to pay an entire semesters worth of tuition (at least that's what they told us back in 2015).
  7. Ryerson called people last year starting the 6th of March all the way to the beginning of April. They also send an update on RAMMS
  8. I was waiting by my phone all day yesterday hoping for a miracle and then I remembered that last year in my seminar class two of my group partners who applied to Ryerson didn't receive their acceptance call from Jennifer Poole under until the middle of March....and the wait continues ?
  9. Thanks for the input. I only applied to Ryerson's MSW Advance Standing program (the wait is killer) and am really doubtful about getting accepting this time. While we wait for the other schools, it would be awesome to hear from people that decided to take or are considering a different route for their Masters - especially if you already have a BSW and are a part of the College. I was also considering The Master of Narrative Therapy and Community Work (collaboration between Dulwich Centre and University of Melbourne).
  10. Hey everyone, I was looking up one of my profs on LinkedIn and noticed that they completed their Ph.D. at Walden University. They also have MSW programs. It seems fairly easy to get into. Has anyone else ever heard of or considered an option like this? Is this like Yorkville?
  11. Hi everyone, I have been following these MSW forums for that past few years and now sadly it's my turn to suffer. I've spent the past few weeks looking at the application process for York, UofT, Ryerson, and Waterloo and at this point, I just wanna rip my hair out (these applications and supplementary forms are way too long). It's also pretty intimidating seeing how others that are also applying have a ton of experience in the field I just recently finished my BSW from Ryerson and am looking at applying for the advanced standing programs. I would LOVE to hear from anyone else that has applied right after completing their BSW. I also wanted to know, for those that have previously applied and gotten accepted.. a lot of the universities ask you to give them a specific number in terms of hours you have completed in the different places that you have worked and/or volunteered at. What do you do if you don't know the exact number, do you just guess and does this hurt your application. Thanks in advance!
