  1. I don't think so. There is an applicant that got accepted for the two year program in integrated health. Hopefully we all hear back soon
  2. Congrats @Bevster!!!
  3. Have you heard back from CSULB? They have started sending our decisions for early birds.
  4. @doctormelody I agree that her conduct is definitely unprofessional. Professors would typically politely decline instead of leaving you in limbo. If you dropped by, and she felt obliged to provide you with a reference, would you feel comfortable not knowing what she has written about you? Especially since admissions favour recommendation letters that students have waived their rights to access. As for your plan B, since he gave you an A despite turning the assignment late probably means that you still had some goodwill from your two classes. Or you probably did deserve it due to the good work you did-either way it is a win win. If you feel deep down that your professor would be the best person to provide you with a reference, I would say go for it show up and make a personal inquiry. You however do not want to wait too long to ask plan B. Sending you positive vibes!! You will get through this soon!!
  5. @doctormelody Gosh, I am sorry that you still have not heard back. IMO I think showing up without an appointment would be unprofessional, unless you had a casual relationship that involved unannounced drop-ins. Also, most professionals would typically respond to emails within 48hours. Your professor's conduct is highly unusual, especially because she is in session. I would suggest that you contact your plan B even though you have not been in touch for a while. Personally one of my references was my community college counselor and supervisor ( I was her office assistant for 2 semesters) . I had not spoken to her since July 2014 (4 years) . She was however very excited to provide me with a letter of recommendation. Educators understand graduate school applications' bureaucracy. As long as you did well in his class, and had a cordial relationship, he will not overthink providing you reference. He probably has been there himself. Alternatively, you could also leave a message with the front desk guy if that is an option. If you still do not hear from her in 48 hours you can make a decision on how to proceed. All the best!
  6. @JoeJoe85 I honestly think you are what the admissions committee is looking for! You have experience working in various arenas of the social work field, and this aligns with the generalist program. You are not going into the program "green," so I think your personal statements are probably incredibly informed by both your experience (practical) and passion for social work . Your GPA from what you have explained is way above the threshold that is required for the CSUs and even UCLA. Your peer reviewed article, and fully-funded PHD scholarship highlights the fact that you are able do well in a graduate program, especially in research classes. I think this will sits quite well with UCLA, since after all they are a research university. Aside from you merit-based qualities (extremely important) , I think the fact that you are originally from Australia sort of contributes to the diversity element that most admission committees value. You are able to bring a perspective that others can't. Your husband is absolutely right! I believe(in my humble opinion) that you are a very competitive candidate, and that you will get into all the programs you have applied for. Your biggest worry in a few weeks will be to choose one school from the lot of acceptances, since they all have their advantages. All the best!!
  7. Hello all, I have applied to UCLA, CSULB, CSUN, CSULA and CSUDH. I would be extremely happy with any of the options. All the best!
  8. Hey, I have applied to CSULB, UCLA, CSULA, CSUN and CSUDH in order of preference, but honestly I would be happy with any program . All programs have responded to me that my application is complete except CSULA. I find the GET portal "self service center" to be a little confusing. Can someone share how to view application status? I am thinking of calling them Monday just to see if they received my application. I graduated with a BA in English from UCLA. My cumulative GPA is 3.7 (major 3.8). I am also a community college transfer and my GPA was 3.5 there so cumulative for CSULB came to about 3.6 but the rest of the schools that ask for last 60 units is 3.7. I have worked in students services field at my community college, a language school administrator, a Swahili language teacher, and currently work in customer service. They are human services fields but not necessarily social work. I am quite nervous and excited at the same time. I wish all of you good fortune.
  9. Great! @Jerusalem that would be a perfect holiday gift for you!
  10. @Bevster This is the response: We have received your application for Fall 2019 admission as a graduate/post-baccalaureate student, but we cannot make an admission decision because important documents are needed to complete your file. In order to process your application in a timely manner, all requested documents must be received as soon as possible but no later than your program's application deadline. Please submit: Official College Transcript from: Los Angeles Pierce College Official College Transcript from: UC Los Angeles The FAFSA part I think is generic for everyone sort of like a reminder which came below my email. I don't think they factor it in for admission, but I guess it helps to just get done with it asap Financial aid information: Our records indicate that you have not applied for need-based Financial Aid as we have not received a FAFSA for 2019-20 from the federal processor. If you believe you have applied for Financial Aid, please be aware that we receive FAFSAs weekly, so if you have recently completed your FAFSA, please check your status again in a week. If you require assistance, please contact the Financial Aid Office at 562-985-8403. If you have not completed a FAFSA, but would like to apply for Financial Aid, visit the Financial Aid website. I hope this helps. I had already submitted my transcripts though so they may be just running behind.
  11. I actually was dealing with something similar last week. I just emailed my professor and asked her whether she would like me to re-send the link since I noticed one of my other recommenders did not get his (this is true). I also asked her if she needs any information from me that would help her to write. She submitted the reference the next day. It doesn't hurt to remind them especially since they are probably providing references to several other students. It is easy to forget. You could also ask her whether she would appreciate a reminder as the deadline approaches. All the best!
  12. Hello everyone, I turned mine in bits ?. One of my professors sent in her letter of recommendation (November 8th) before I even submitted my application (November 15th). However, I received a notice on November 19th that they have my application and it is being reviewed. I then received another notice from graduate admissions saying that they do not have my FASFA and transcripts. So I called and checked with a helpful admin guy who confirmed that they do indeed have my transcripts and that it will take a few days to update. Now I wait and obsessively check my email. All the best to all of you
  13. You stats are impressive. I second DrMelody. Your GPA combined with your relevant work experience as well as the fact that you are an all-around student just makes you an impressive candidate.
  14. Hello, My stats are quite underwhelming, but a girl can hope I am a recent graduate and I will be applying for MSW fall 2019. Major: English UCLA G.P.A: 3.75 Extra Curricular Activities at UCLA- Zero (I was working full time) Although at my community college I was in student government as well as International Students Club. Work Experience: 1) Program Assistant to International Students Office at my community college: At this time, I was also an F1 visa student so I was hired at the front desk to assist with general office duties as well as basic socialization with shy students. (I am hoping this can be a human services related field) (Approximately 1 year off and on depending on budget) 2) I was also hired as a Student Government Clerk: This was highly admin and clerical work. (2 years) 3) Location Coordinator for a Language School (1.5 years). I also taught Swahili and tutored English . 4) I currently have a basic sales job (2 years). I needed a pretty chill job while I was in school. 5) I started volunteering at a Human Services field in their Needle Exchange Program. This is quite recent so I do not know how much of an impact it would have. I also assist with general admin services at the office. Kinda like a floating volunteer. Schools I will be applying to: CSULB, CSUN, CSUDH, CSULA and UCLA. I do not have a top choice since they are all generalist programs. What are my chances considering my liberal undergrad and very limited human services background?
