  1. I'm in the process of writing a Statement of Purpose for Speech-Language Pathology graduate programs, and one program is asking a question that's leaving me stumped. "Describe yourself. We're interested in learning about you as a person." Does anyone have suggestions for what I could write here? I'm really just not sure what the committee is looking for, or how to make a description of myself flow into the rest of my essay. I've already written about issues in the field that I am interested in (connecting that back to my employment experiences), and my professional goals for the next 5 and 10 years (tying that into why this particular school is a good fit for me), thereby answering the other questions asked of my sop. However, I'm just at a loss as to how to describe myself. I'd appreciate any help or advice!
  2. That sounds like quite a lot making you a competitive applicant! Good luck on the GREs. Is that your overall GPA, or in-major? I've heard that programs sometimes care more about in-major GPA or the GPA for the last 60 credits (for example) more than overall GPA. Have you been enjoying volunteering at a private practice? I definitely wish I did more volunteering/shadowing specifically in the field of speech, I'm a bit worried that it might count against me that I've only done the required 25 shadowing hours.
  3. There doesn't seem to be a thread like this yet, so why not get one started, right? This can be for anyone applying for the Fall 2019 cycle! Maybe it's a bit early, but knowing the type of people who tend to go for this field, I feel like a lot of us have probably started preparing for applications already. ? In the spirit of copying the thread from last year's application round: - Where are you from? - Which programs are you applying to? - What are your biggest concerns about applications? I'm from Maine but I've been living abroad for the past two years, getting some work experience through English teaching. I'm applying to five schools: the University of New Hampshire, Bridgewater State University, North Carolina Central University, the University of North Carolina - Chapel Hill, and New Mexico State University. Perhaps it's a bit early to be starting applying, but I want to make sure I have everything together! I'm most nervous right now about my low quantitative score on the GRE, and how to make my statement of purpose stand out.
  4. Hey! Is anyone applying to or currently attending grad school at Bridgewater? I'm trying to figure out the deal with the prerequisites. I got my BS in CSD so I have all the prerequisites, except the 100-level math and 100-level biology. At my undergrad program, we were allowed (nay, highly recommended) to take Nutrition for our biological science requirement, and I took Statistics but didn't take any other math course. To clarify, does Bridgewater require you to take a second, non-Stats math course? And is there any way Nutrition could count for my bio requirement? If I need to take extra courses I'd debate applying at all, since I'm out of school and currently working abroad which would make fulfilling those requirements a bit of a hassle. Is there any possibility that I could take those classes alongside the grad coursework? I'd also love to talk to anyone who's attending Bridgewater to know more about the program, since it's so new! Thanks.
