  1. Hello there! This is a fairly common dilemma. I am unsure of what the best "etiquette" here is, but what I can tell you is that POIs are not surprised that you are interested in other professors from their university or other programs with similar research labs. From my experience, they often advise to just list both on your application - that's why programs let you list up to three POIs. That said, unless you are quite interested in being co-supervised by them, I would say just contact them separately to gauge their interest in your experience, how it matches with theirs, etc. And maybe this can evolve into a discussion of shared interests or a Skype call as someone on this thread previously mentioned. My personal opinion is that it is expected for POIs with similar research interests to be contacted by the same students. I think things get a bit odd when you express interest in wildly different areas and you don't have some justification for it (you can be perceived as unfocused). I might be wrong about this, so maybe someone else can chime in All the best!
  2. Hello! That's a little unusual, to be contacted before you submit all application materials. At least that's the response I receive, that they have to receive all materials and after the application deadline they schedule calls for short list. Maybe this is how this POI does things, or maybe they are very interested. In either case, congrats! and yes, it's better to over-prepare than to not be prepared enough. Try to look into their pubs/ research interests and remember to ask about their own expectations for students/ mentorship style. Remember, you are interviewing them as much as they are interviewing you. Needs to be a good match for a couple of years at least Best of luck!
  3. You have no idea how much I relate to your comment I'm finally 4 out of 4 no's. It was bad getting that news, but it's even worse now since I haven't yet decided what I'm going to do next year. I feel a little too old to keep applying. My final no was from UBC Counselling, last Friday (and wouldn't you know it, I initially missed the email, although I've been frantically refreshing since January). If anyone has a recommendation for alternative programs that they attended and know about that could better prepare me for clinical, please drop me a message. I do need funding for it, but I am willing to work hard for it ? And I would really appreciate some alternatives. For those with an acceptance - congrats! it's so freaking exciting! you're going to be doing all sorts of awesome things in the fall. For those still waiting - hold on a little more, it's almost over. *hugs* And for everybody else, maybe I'll see some of you next year around here. All the best, have a great spring and summer!
  4. Nope. I checked. I get antsy and regularly check the app status.
  5. Hello all, Just checked my status on the York my file page and it says "Reviewed - Unsuccessful". So I guess that's that. It was pretty fast so clearly I didn't meet one of their more important criteria. Just a heads up if anyone else is checking their application status frequently, like I was
  6. Add me to the list please. Also 4 schools. And 3 already had interviews and acceptance rounds ?
  7. Thank you for the information. I didn't apply to Queens, however, it is interesting to note that some programs discuss international applicants in a separate meeting. I guess it has to do with funding and similar matters? (I am international as well)
  8. Take care of yourself. It's awesome you have an interview. Remember, you are also there to "interview" them as well. You might be working closely with some of them for quite some time. Drink enough water (helps with tiredness) and take breaks outside if you can to clear your head. If you can, try to enjoy the interview as well. You can do this! ?
  9. I just checked mine and it still says "No decision yet". But not very hopeful. Sorry for the bad news pearl_lyng Did you receive an email notifying you that the status changed?
  10. I find it so fascinating and I didn't even realize that some people might not be aware of the forum / results page. I've been faithful looking at it weekly (or more) since last summer. Don't get too caught up in it though. The community here is much more friendly
  11. Oh thank you that's so nice of you. I applied to Clinical Developmental, so probably not the same POI. Good thing I will have a busy week ahead at work to keep me busy. I might have jumped the gun there a little. And rewatching Frasier keeps me sane. I recommend it for other forum friends who need a new addiction to keep their mind off this process for a while ?
  12. I PM-ed Magnolias to check if we have the same POI at York, but I guess he or she is busy preparing for interview, which I don't blame them at all But yeah, I also assumed rejection since the Open House will be mid February (according to several sources). We'll just wait a bit more and see.
  13. I see. Thank you! The wait continues ?
  14. Congrats again Mickey! Has anyone else heard from U of R? I've been refreshing my Inbox so much I think it will soon break ? Also, any other news from York? Ahh this time of the year is making me so antsy ?
  15. Is this the case for Canada too? I knew that there was a US trend pushing for social workers/ master's level clinicians to take over PhD tasks, however, is it the same for Canada? Are social workers trained sufficiently to perform these clinical duties?
  16. Thank you! The waiting continues
  17. I was hoping for some news from York by the end of this week. Does anyone know anything about interviews/ shortlisting - even if it's not official? I'm personally a little disheartened - my POI has not replied to a second email I sent after applying (although initially they mentioned to keep them posted of any updates, and I had an update). I realize that they are very busy, I just hope it's not bad news.
  18. I doubt that it happens often, at least in clinical psychology, whether it's US or Canada... Think about it from their point of view - you have so many great applicants and you take the time to narrow down to a couple that you really like, wouldn't you at least schedule a Skype to get to know them a little? Especially since even in research-oriented programs the students still have to do clinical hours? I personally am still amazed that there are grad programs that admit without interview - when you have to work with that person closely for so many years, it helps to try to get to know them a little. It seems to me very different from undergrad. I haven't received any interviews yet so I can commiserate how stressful the waiting can be. But I guess if you don't receive an interview request, it's a small chance you will be admitted (unless you're on the waiting list and get an interview from there). Sorry if I'm the bearer of bad news
  19. that's great! best of luck!
  20. I agree! I had a hunch about UVic given the Results page, but it would be so much better if we knew. I understand that some of the applicants are still under review/ on waitlist, but I doubt that most are still under consideration. Put me out of my misery sooner rather than later lol
  21. Hello everyone, First of all congratulations for the interview invites! It sounds so exciting. NeuropsychologyNerd - I also applied to UVic and noticed on the Results page that some people are already receiving interview invites. I have not received anything. Oh and I am also applying with a master's. I applied to only 4 universities (due to multiple circumstances) and I am starting to get a little jittery after seeing that Best of luck!
  22. That sounds awesome Happy New Year everyone!
  23. I am going to echo this message and say that it's very likely that things just got a little bit hectic for your POI. Unless you sent a message of "get out of here with your stupid invite", I am sure there's nothing you said in your email that triggered a no response. I've seen emails from several departments from the past week mentioning how crazy busy it was and to just wait for status update because they will get back to us soon. So hold tight, you have great news, enjoy the holidays!
  24. Whaaat? That's insane. Wasn't the deadline December 1st? Wow. I didn't know programs make decisions that fast. Congratulations! and enjoy the ride
