  1. I only heard from one before Christmas and then nothing from the rest. No one is mentioning them in the results either, even though in the past at least one sent out invites in December. It’s so annoying. I just want to know what’s happening, lol.
  2. Me too! I just hope my recommenders won’t hate me!
  3. Hi, thanks for this post! I just discovered this program with only 8 days left to apply. I will be applying tonight.
  4. From what I understand, fit is always really important, so I would highlight the ways that your research interests would work with and enhance what they’re doing in their lab, as well as what unique skills, experiences, or research/education you have that will be useful and bring a new perspective.
  5. I’m mostly applying to psych phd programs, but I also applied to the biomedical anthropology program at SUNY Binghamton.
  6. I saw the dates in the results section. Someone got invited and they said the dates were January 27-29. And I misremembered. It was another school where someone got accepted already. This was just the invite. That person was a developmental psych applicant. I’m not sure if the dates are only for that department or not.
  7. Has anyone heard from UVA? I saw someone got an invite to developmental psychology awhile ago in the results page, but nothing else. I applied to a mix of developmental and social POIs. It looks like their interview weekend is the last week in January, so I would think they’d have already sent invites out.
  8. Not to stress you further, but I got a phone call inviting me to an interview weekend that turned into an interview that I as totally unprepared for. It turned out fine, my invite wasn’t rescinded or anything. I would just try to at least look over your application if you don’t have much time before the call. Since it’s to set up the interview I doubt they will expect you to be ready to interview then. You can always make it clear your time is limited, and try to keep it on track for scheduling.
  9. Some schools allow you to do a dual PhD if you are admitted to both programs. You just need to search their graduate schools for dual degree programs. I know the University of Washington has a design your own phd as well.
  10. I feel similarly, but I am sucking it up because I think it will just cause more trouble for them and potentially make me seem difficult right from the start. The main this is that I know they go to a lot of trouble to organize everything in advance, and to have to create extra work of having someone come get you at a hotel doesn't feel good to me. Plus, as others have said, this is your chance to talk to someone about the program, and also, they are watching you to report back. If they don't get a chance to get to know you, they might not have much to say on your behalf. It might make a difference that my interview is in a very big city with bad traffic where it would really be a pain, but I think that unless you really have a serious issue, that sucking it up is the way to go. Who knows, it might not be that bad. I'm also hoping for something more than a couch, but I will take what I can get.
  11. I was told at the time I was invited that I would be reimbursed for my travel and to keep my receipts. I was also told I would be picked up and would be staying with a grad student.
  12. Are they not reimbursing you for your travel? I know it’s still an expense up front, but I’m curious. I have just one so far but they are reimbursing my flight and putting me up with a grad student. I thought (hope!) that’s standard.
  13. The only thing I would add is that if there is a personal reason that has made you passionate about your area of study, I might mention that briefly. Otherwise, I would keep personal stuff in your personal statement.
  14. My overall gpa isn’t great because I left school for other pursuits and came back. But my major gpa and last 60 credits are over 3.9, so I just put my major gpa (and labeled it that way) on my cv. My story is similar in terms of, don’t look at what I did before, look at what I’m doing now.
  15. I’ve been invited to an interview weekend and was told I will be staying with a graduate student. I’m just wondering what to expect. Like will I be on the couch in the living room? What kind of privacy can I expect? Im assuming that as a female I will be put up with another female, but is that reasonable? This is honestly the part of the visit that is stressing me out the most!

  17. Short list technically just means you’re in the running. It means they’re making a list of people they think they want (to interview in this case) and then they’ll pick from that list the final people. They may or may not invite you, but you have definitely made it out of the pile of applications to being seriously considered.
  18. It was weird, it came from the Business School and I didn’t apply there either. I did apply to psych though.
  19. Did anyone else get a happy holidays email from Colorado Boulder? So disappointing!
  20. Ugh. Been waiting all day to see if I might get a last day before the holiday invitation and then I get an email notification! From one of my schools responding to my response to their request for an additional transcript. ?
  21. It looks like Washington doesn’t send out invites until mid January.
  22. Right, but the original poster said they were equally interested in each program. If you have one you want more, then wait. I would just not respond in that case. No one is going to check their responses until after Christmas probably anyway. But if you’re equally interested and it’s easy for you to go, I would take the interview and let the others work around your schedule, then you don’t look bad to anyone, because you’re just already booked. You don’t need to reschedule and look bad. If they want to interview you, I’m sure they expect that others do too, and are aware that their weekends overlap with others.
  23. I don’t know why you wouldn’t accept an interview if you want to go to the school it’s not an admittance. You aren’t locked out of other interviews because you accepted one. And if you accept now, you will know your schedule for the next interview option. You should definitely interview everywhere you want to go so that they can decide if you’re a right fit and vice versus.
  24. Anyone hear from Michigan yet? It looks like they sent out interview invites this week last year.
  25. Is this for developmental? Can you dm me your POI? Congrats!
