Fall 2019 Psychology PhD Applicants!
Psyhopeful replied to dancedementia's topic in Psychology Forum
After worrying about my Stanford app, I had my official transcripts sent yesterday. I got notified that they opened them about an hour ago and now my application says complete, although it only says my unofficial transcripts have been uploaded. So who knows, but either way, I’m glad it says complete! -

Do you know if this is true for developmental too? I got an invite and I’ve been wondering how many others to expect. -
I am older than you and I am finishing my bachelors degrees, I’m getting two, after a long time away from school working in film. I have a 3 year old and am a single mom by choice and I’m applying to PhD programs. I don’t think you’re ever too old, but especially not at 31. I have friends who have gotten married and had kids while in doctorate programs. I think you’ll be fine if it’s what you want.

Oh whoops, I just realized this is the social thread. I applied to developmental, but I had a social prof on my list of POIs. -

I think this is why it’s good to email your POI before your application is submitted. That way even if your scores aren’t great, they might look out for your app and read it anyway. -

My current professor mentor has said that they don’t consider the quant so much unless it’s alarmingly low. It’s more about if they are torn between two and one is better all around. Research experience, interest, and gpa are all more important. They’re in social psych though. -

My verbal was very high, my quant was very mediocre but my total was 320. One school I applied to said they expected 310 minimum. I have gotten one interview weekend invite so far, so I wouldn’t worry too much. I think most places will look at your whole application, not just your scores. Most schools don’t have official cutoffs. At least for the non-clinical programs. -

I applied to social, but the best fit for me is not taking students this year, so my hopes aren’t high. -

That’s good news. After I applied, my main POI responded to my initial email to say they were moving on from my research interest, so I figured I was out. -

Hmm... that was my first app and I was in a hurry. I think I thought they only needed official if you were admitted. I looked through last year’s posts and it looks like the earliest people were hearing was right around the new year. They just scared me with that whole we will not review your app if it’s not complete. I guess I’ll send the official transcripts just in case. Thanks! -

If anyone applied to Colorado - Boulder, they seem to be reviewing. I got an email Thursday asking for a transcript from a certificate program I attended. -

Did anyone apply to Stanford? My application says incomplete, missing official transcripts, but I could swear I only had to upload unofficial ones, and that it said complete when I submitted. I’m just wondering if they just don’t update their portal, or if my application was never looked at because it’s considered incomplete. Did you have to upload official transcripts in the application? -
I was so busy trying to get my apps in, keep up with school, and take care of my kid and I had no idea responses would be coming so soon. I was looking forward to a stress free winter break and then I got my first interview weekend invitation, found this forum, and discovered that my break would not be stress free at all! My original plan had been finally playing Assassain’s Creed Odyssey and I’m sticking to it, but with frequent stops to check my email.

If you don’t mind sharing the initials of your POI at Michigan I would love to know. Is it for developmental psych? Do you think they meant they’d be scheduling an interview?
