  1. I can definitely relate. It feels somewhat similar to an all-consuming relationship. You give it your all and see very few benefits at first (long hours, debt, exhaustion, tough workload), but the amazing thing about this whole process is how you’ll come out of it on the other side, stronger mentally and emotionally, and making incredible contributions to society. We need people like you. We started this journey for a purpose, whatever purpose that may be. Somewhere out there, there’s someone waiting for you to solve problem X, improve intervention Y, or run experiment Z. Your time is coming, so think of the brunt work and the trials of grad school as a marathon. No need to sprint. Just take it one step at a time.
  2. Hello, it’s so great that you are planning early on where you’d like to apply! More generally speaking, I think keeping an organized spreadsheet with 1) program names, 2) program mission, 3) program model, 4) at minimum two potential mentors you’d work with, 5) average gre scores of prior accepted cohorts (past two years only), 6) average time to graduate, 7) average EPPP scores, and 8 ) average gpa of accepted cohort (past two years only) and 9) financial aid info is the bare minimum for what you should know for all of your programs. For Clinical PhD programs, it’s best to apply to as many as 10-15 or more. For Counseling PhD, 7-10 is best. I’d love to provide individual feedback and support you especially since I’ve interviewed and received acceptances from programs you’ve mentioned. Please DM me also, word to the wise - with greater prestige comes greater competition. Know this when applying to places like UNC Chapel Hill or Boston College. I don’t mean to discourage you at all, but this is already such a competitive process so I found that it helped me to rank my chances on “goodness of fit” to my programs’ averages. Even then, it was still competitive!
  3. Counseling Phd Interview questions: Can you tell me a little bit about yourself?** What questions do you have for me?** Why Counseling Psychology and not Clinical? Can you explain your undergraduate thesis? Why our program? Why not others? What do you want to do in 2 years? 5 years? 10 years?** Can you tell me about your publications? Clinical PhD Interview questions: Can you tell me a little bit about yourself?** What questions do you have for me?** What would your dissertation be if you were accepted here? Explain hypothesis, research design, and expected analyses (all in one go!). Detailed, specific questions about one line on my CV. How would you add to diversity or serving underserved populations if you were accepted here? What connected you to this one particular clinical experience? What was your role? Do you know what transference and countertransference mean? If a patient were in therapy with you and there were signs of countertransference, what would you do?# These were the most memorable! **I was asked this for two programs. #can we not? thanks byeee.
  4. Hi friends, I just wanted to start a thread on available fellowship opportunities for those in phd programs in any area of psych. Please provide the following info: Fellowship Name: Program Type (if it’s specific to one area): Web Link:
  5. Hi guys! I just released my offer for the Counseling phd program at Fordham this afternoon! Good luck!!
  6. School: St.John’s University Concentration: Clinical Psychology Type: PhD (Clinical Child Track) Notified by: phone call from faculty Date of Acceptance: 2/12 Interview day felt very off to me and the walk to the clinic was unbearable. Funding is on the lower end too. DM me for more details! FYI I released my offer as soon as I got it!
  7. Hi! I’m more than happy to critique CV’s and/or cover letters! I have worked at a research lab for almost two years now and will be attending a clinical psych PhD program in the fall. Please DM me! For my lab, if an applicant applies to both the job portal and sends us a CV/CL then I take that as a good sign and prioritize their application more. That being said, if you call the lab a wrong name or call us/our PI by the wrong names then your mistakes are way easier to point out.
  8. School: CUA Concentration: Clinical (CFC focus) Type: PhD Date of acceptance: 3/5/2019 Notified by: Phone Call Please DM for POI initials. I have accepted!! It’s my top choice school!
  9. I’m waiting to hear back from my top choice! They said it would take 2 weeks so I’m waiting with bated breath!
  10. So, for everyone who had a virtual Counseling PhD interview at TC, what did you guys think? I thought the group interview didn't allow for multiple speakers to contribute to their opinions since we were provided only 3 minutes to speak but had 10+ individuals on the call. In other words, WHAT A HOT MESS.
  11. Hi can the person who posted re: Pittsburgh please DM me their POI? Thanks!
  12. Hi, to the ASU poster, was the interview invite a mass email? Thanks! You can feel free to DM me if you feel more comfortable doing so!
  13. Keep the faith alive! UNC’s notification deadline is January 18th. There’s a high likelihood that they will still reach out to people in the next two weeks!
