Their way of accepting is almost the worst.
They emailed to those who were accepted and waitlisted a week ago and did not offer any updates to those who have not received any notifications.
Just let you hang in there.
I even feel that a direct rejection is much better.
Madison does this too. super annoying. I'd rather wait a few more days if they agree to release decisions to everyone on the same day.

I have a friend who's a current student in the UCSD program--their graduate coordinator is on vacation until next week, so I highly doubt there's much going on right now!
thank you!

Any more updates/thoughts on Madison?? only a few acceptances and then crickets...
In the same boat!
Also, there is a UCSD rejection on the results page. Anyone heard from UCSD?

Anyone know if Northwestern waitlists at all? Trying to figure out how discouraged I should be from the acceptances today.
Not sure about northwestern but I sympathize! It's annoying when schools don't send out decisions at the same time. I understand that the technology may result in some delays, but the decisions should be received within a day or two. Insane that they keep so many applicants in limbo.

I started this thread just to record when people hear back from schools. But looks like it's blooming into a full thread. For the sanity of next year's applicants though, would it be great to abandon this thread and use this one
instead?

this year seems really low? the decision threads from past years already hit 20-25 pages at this point

The people reporting acceptances said they were unofficial notifications from their POIs, so that could be POI dependent. I wouldn't worry too much yet.
nice username haha

Just heard from GWU -- accepted!!
It's a great feeling to start with a yes. I know they're not tippy tippy top tier but still very exciting for me.
Congratulations!

Someone on another thread mentioned yesterday they had been recommended to the graduate school for admission so I would presume its them (although it sounds unofficial at this point)
Thanks! From past threads it seems like rejections come later in the month. Will assume it's a rejection then.

Anyone wants to claim the UW Madison acceptance on Jan 17? I haven't heard anything from them yet.
I didn't get an interview so I assume it's a rejection.

Likely to drop next week, or the week after next: (based on past years)
UT Austin
UW Madison
Mizzou
Rice
GWU
OSU

Thank you! And ahh, I'm sorry! I think it's totally possible they don't interview everyone they end up admitting, or that they do multiple rounds of interviews.
Fingers crossed! Madison is high on my list because there are two people there whose work I have followed very closely. Best of luck to you!

I got an email today about a phone interview with UW-Madison. I think it went out to the comparative politics group so they may be sending out emails for the other subfields later on!
Congrats! That's definitely a good sign! Applied to Madison but didn't get an interview

I was interviewed by the admissions committee at UW-Madison last cycle.
Do you mind sharing roughly when that interview was? Sorry I'm super anxious hehe

Applying to different programs: need different recommendation letters?
in Political Science Forum
Posted · Edited by sandmoon
Asking for my sister: She's applying to MA programs and PhD programs next year. The two are related (Political Science PhD and MPP/MPA), but she's wondering how she should approach her professors for recommendation letters. Is asking them to customize the letter for the programs too much to ask? She's thinking of two versions, one for the PhD, one for the MPP/MPA.
I see that people on this forum have applied for PhD programs in different subjects (political science and sociology, for example). How do you ask your professors? (Or do you simply tell them not to include the program name in the letter e.g. ("John Doe is an excellent candidate for your program")?
