  1. I've lived in/near Toronto my entire life; Toronto certainly has more job opportunities than Montreal for English speakers. That said, I've found the opportunities in Toronto, though comparatively abundant to other Canadian cities, to be fairly competitive. Montreal is certainly much cheaper to live in and arguably a nicer city, but it does seem harder to find an English speaking job; if you're bilingual then this may not be an issue.
  2. Would also appreciate knowing this UTSC was my top choice this year
  3. That’s what I thought. Well, good to know for next year
  4. Are quantitative scores typically weighted more than verbal GRE scores? My quantitative score was average but my verbal scores were quite high
  5. Hi there, I'm in my first round of applications so I can't provide much advice with respect to time off... I ended up using my 5th year in undergraduate to get some relevant clinically-oriented research experience while finishing my degree. Just wanted to say that I'm in a similar scenario; graduated this past June and I applied this year. I was also slightly older than some of my undergraduate peers when graduating, and don't think I got in this year, so I can definitely relate to feeling "behind" in a way... you're not alone. I can certainly relate to feeling demoralized. As some people have mentioned, it's not uncommon for people to be doing their Masters (or to have acquired one) when applying. It also doesn't seem too uncommon for people to be in their early-mid 30s when finishing their PhD. As people have reminded me, in the grand scheme of things, a few years probably isn't a huge deal. I think many of us are in this situation... more than I had previously thought.
  6. In the same boat! Don't personally know anybody in/pursuing clinical psychology. I would definitely recommend exercising to distract yourself. Physiological benefits aside, I've found it hard to be distracted by grad apps when running on a treadmill or lifting weights.
  7. I've been creating a plan of sorts for if I don't get into a program; what I'll do should that happen. That's reduced my anxiety a bit, but I think it's fairly normal for the applications to be on your mind. Also distract myself by doing things I enjoy more often.
  8. anonymity + a forum explicitly dedicated to people posting their academic achievement + ability to comment on other's/own achievement = exactly what you'd expect. Thought the clinical section would be slightly more civil/compassionate though...
  9. Mine is still “Under Review” on SGS
  10. My app is still “under review” as well
  11. Yeah, that's what I'm thinking of doing. Also seems like a good way to stand out
  12. Oh ok. Yeah I know there is minimal coursework/a lot of research in that program, which is fine by me.
  13. Anyone here do an MSc in Psychiatry at McGill? Just debating on applying
  14. Anyone interviewing at UTSC this week? Just curious if they are sticking to the posted timeline

    Toronto, ON

I've been looking for apartments in that area for a while now. I currently live in East Toronto but not in Scarborough. I would say you're looking between $1000-1500 for a bachelor or 1 bedroom apartment but it depends on your standards. Basement apartments tend to be cheaper (but darker). I've seen rooms in a multi-bedroom house or apartment for 500 or 600. I would check Kijiji. But, whatever the living situation, it's worth checking it's location to local transit systems i.e. how far south or north of the Danforth the place is... I've been lured into a few places only to realize it's quite a commute to the subway line
  16. I'm in the exact same boat! Best of luck!
  17. For the UTSC interview dates, they are posted on their site (see link). Whether they will hold to these dates, I am not 100% sure. https://www.utsc.utoronto.ca/psych/admissions Who told you those were the dates? If you don't mind me asking
  18. I haven't heard from UTSC but I have applied. My application was updated to "Under Review" just last week, for better or worse.
  19. Is it usually viewed negatively to follow-up on whether all interview invitations have been sent? Just curious whether this would reflect badly on a candidate
  20. No invitation as of yet... just trying to prepare for any scenario
  21. Anyone here familiar with the UTSC/(UofT Clinical) Interview Days? i.e. structure/format. Any info would be helpful
  22. Do you think it's warranted to contact the grad or prog. coordinator to inquire about interview invitations? Given such the delayed update of our applications to "Under Review". Just notice the posted interview days are for next week
