    @schop Good luck with the rest of the admissions process! Happy to share my details (see below). I'm an older candidate, so I have a lot of work experience. :-) 1. Undergrad: Economics and Political Science double major at top 10 liberal arts college; post-baccaulaureate coursework in Computer Science and Math 2. Undergrad GPA: 3.63 3. GRE 164Q, 167V, 5 AWA 4. 5 years of experience working in research w/8 publications; additional work experience as a software developer and econ consultant My statement of purpose was about health data science applications, since that is where I want to focus after completing my Master's degree. Accepted: Columbia, NYU, Brown, USF, Berkeley MIDS, Tufts, Harvard School of Public Health (health data science) Rejected: MIT Business Analytics, Harvard SEAS

    I'm not really sure. It looks like the admitted students' open house was on April 5 (according to the admitted students' webpage). I can't tell how many DS students have been admitted (from the Results page, it doesn't look like very many).

    Hi everyone. I was accepted to Columbia today and have until Monday, April 15th to respond to the offer.

    @d t Congratulations on your acceptances! Regarding my math background, haha: I don't have much more than the bare minimum requirements for these programs (Calc I&II, Linear Algebra, Prob/Stats, Econometrics). I took Prob/Stats in an Economics Department, so it was nowhere near the level of difficulty of a course that would be offered in Math/Applied Math.

    @thrasher88 I thought that the info session was okay. Aside from the Deputy Director of the Program (who spoke for 20 minutes), there were no faculty members there. I guess the caliber of the coursework speaks for itself, so there isn't much of a need to "convince" prospective students to attend the program. In addition to other factors, I'm probably going to decline NYU because I don't have a strong enough theoretical math background.

    @nick_brown16 I noticed that you went to Brown for your undergraduate studies -- did you enjoy it? I was accepted to the Brown Data Science program and am seriously considering it. Was there any particular reason you didn't apply for the Data Science Initiative at Brown? Thanks in advance!

    Hi Sarthak! Wow, congrats on your acceptances. Honestly, I think all of these programs are excellent, so it's hard to see how you could go wrong. You could ask the admissions departments to put you in touch with current students/alums to get a feel for each program and ask any specific questions you have.

    @regressionist I don't know if this is helpful, but I have to accept or decline NYU by April 8. I would guess there will be movement on the waiting list after that date.

My updates: Accepted: NYU CDS, University of San Francisco, Tufts, Harvard School of Public Health, UC Berkeley MIDS Rejected: Harvard SEAS, MIT Sloan MBAn Pending: Columbia (one-way interview invite), Brown (completed interview) Waiting to see how Columbia and Brown pan out, but need to come to a decision pretty soon.

    Received an email to complete a one-way interview by March 31. I hope others have also received some positive news!

    I guess I’m just banking on a rejection at this point. Will also need to put inadeposit at another school.

    Asked via email if it's possible for a status update in lieu of the deadlines for offers from other schools. I got the following generic response: Thank you for your interest in Columbia Engineering. Please be advised, the application review process may take several weeks or longer and this is normal due to the high number of applications received and the selectivity of the program. The application reviews are also strictly confidential. We are not privy to the details regarding the status or any other aspect of your application while it's under review. We appreciate the time and effort you spent in preparing your application and want to assure you that the faculty admissions committee is working very hard to give each application careful attention. We will contact you via email as soon as a decision is entered on your application.

    @Waiting2019 From the admitted students presentation on Monday: Many of the core DS classes are offered at night, between 5 PM and 9 PM. It sounds like this is due to 2 factors: (1) to enable part-time students to enroll in the core classes without missing work (though there aren't many part-time students), (2) to accommodate professors' schedules (some professors are also working at companies full-time)
