  1. Snowing where I am too. My sibling's school has been cancelled twice this week for ice and snow. Unfortunately I still have to go to stats class ?
  2. Also in at UCLA, also got an email around 11PM PST. Guess they had too many Red Bulls or something
  3. I'm dying to know what's going on over at UCLA. They're way late compared to the last five years
  4. It probably isn't inappropriate, but I'm not sure it will help (in terms of maximizing probability of admission). It won't hurt either, probably. So I guess if your goal is to get a question answered an email is worth it, but otherwise it's probably a wash. Others can correct me on this, but my impression of interviews is that they're just trying to see if you seem like a normal person who can articulate about the work you're doing
  5. It depends on the program. Some schools lean heavily on the waitlist, some don't use it at all. I'm not sure about Duke.
  6. Sending good vibes for those last 3. Here is my cat in a cone of shame for your enjoyment
  7. Claiming an MIT acceptance, American/methods
  8. Yep. Seems like there were some weird dynamics last year that led to Michigan having higher matriculation, and PhD students are expensive so they have to compensate. Sucks for those who applied this year.
  9. Yeah, they over-admitted last year and had to compensate this year, so I've heard
  10. Yeah, I was wondering whether to respond to a personalized email as well - I opted not to for now, but now I'm rethinking. As far as addressing them, if they are a professor always use "Prof" or "Professor." If they have a PhD but are not a professor, use "Dr." Else, use "Mr./Ms." Professors, essentially as a rule nowadays, have a PhD, so technically "Professor" is a level above "Dr." because some instructors (lecturers, postdocs) don't have the title of "Professor" but do still have a PhD.
  11. Well that makes more sense
  12. Surely you mean 3 AM EST... right??? But I guess even midnight local time is insane
  13. There's still UCLA, MIT, Michigan yet to come before Harvard/Stanford/Columbia. But yeah, for the most part we'll be waiting until the end of the month seems like
  14. UCLA and Michigan are both a couple days later than last year as of now. I would expect Michigan today or Monday, don't know about UCLA.
  15. Not sure what you mean here. Do you mean the best programs that do qualitative research or the best programs qualitatively speaking? In either case, not sure there's a good answer
  16. Yeah, but you get to do that when you're Gary King ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
  17. Yep. Except mine was TurboTax fml
  18. 2 new ones. Seems like updates are coming
  19. Hoping for Michigan to come out and I didn't even apply
  20. I've said for a while that political science major requirements should essentially be what is now a political science major plus a stats minor. But of course then lots of people who want a "humanities" major wouldn't do it and enrollment in the major would drop drastically.
  21. DGS but it's a generic email
  22. NYU acceptance with stipend amount. American/methods
  23. Not that I've seen
  24. Yep, around 94k.
  25. Yep same situation lol
