  1. There's been at least 7 reported acceptances this year - I think you're right.
  2. I've heard (it should be on the website but I can't find it at the moment) that CSU sends out acceptances around late March. Still waiting on UNC Chapel Hill and Ann Arbor, though I'm assuming wait-lists for both until I get a concrete answer from them.
  3. I didn't apply to the others, but I think the program at John Hopkins is becoming more active. I was sent an email saying my application was ready for review about 2 weeks ago, and yesterday I received a rejection notice from them (which is ok, but still a bit disappointing) Hope this helps! Good luck getting in to any of those schools
  4. Has anyone received responses from Columbia's PhD program or Colorado State's? I'm beginning to wonder if maybe CSU has rolling admissions - I submitted in October of last year and have heard nothing since.
  5. I was out shopping for school supplies and desk decorations when I got my first acceptance. I think I got a few strange looks when I started jumping up and down in the middle of the store after reading the email, lol. Immediately ran outside and called my parents and mentors and we all squealed about it.
  6. I enjoy console gaming a lot, and I'm going to try and set up some sort of Dungeons and Dragons group wherever I go. I also dabble in some digital art and ricing (customizing user interfaces on phones and computers), and I'd love to stick with it because it's so much fun.
  7. Oof, that stinks. I got one too; it's weird that they sent so many out on Valentine's Day.
  8. Nothing yet from Columbia or CMU for the regular PhD. Didn't apply to Harvard, so not sure there.
  9. My wait is over!! I got an acceptance to PSU! No matter what happens now, I'm going to grad school! This is so exciting - good luck to everyone else!
  10. Thank you so much for this post! I was starting to think myself into a dark corner because I haven't had decisions from any of my schools, so this really helps. I'll keep positive until late March, I suppose!
  11. Oof, I feel that. Any sign of life would be great, you know? I've almost just stopped caring entirely about the process, but then I'll get an inkling to log in to my application page or my phone will buzz with an email and the anxiety begins anew.
  12. That's pretty much how I feel, especially on reaching out to potential advisors. I had no idea you were supposed to do that so I ended up only contacting one professor simply because I was in the area and wanted to stop by the physical offices where the other grads work. I feel like I'm out of the running entirely, and it doesn't help that my quant score was barely passable for my field (160Q) Let's keep hoping, though! Tons of acceptances go out in February - just because we didn't hear anything positive in January doesn't mean we're out of the race entirely. And congrats on your offer, that's super exciting!!
  13. I know someone who did that, actually! They lived in a monastery in Germany for a summer. They said it helped ground them and learn how to better focus on what's important to them in life. I think it was only for a summer though, so idk if they would say the same thing for a whole year, lol.
  14. February is an interesting month - I've got a conference at the end of the month I'm looking forward to + tons of school events going on, but I've heard radio silence from my programs (which, as I've learned, is semi-expected, since Statistics programs really start digging into their applications around this time). So I'm imagining that February will be full of a lot of news, hopefully some good! @Moods Oof, it sounds like February is going to be pretty rough - I bet you'll get through it just fine, and even stronger as a person! Good reminder about self-care, it's something I forget so much during times of stress. Even radical self care is helpful (make time to take showers and brush teeth even if it feels like the world is falling down!!)
  15. I'm kind of regretting my decision to not apply to NC State (even though their major focuses in computational stats + biostats aren't my main research interests) simply because I would have probably heard something from them by now. Silence from 9 programs is disheartening.
  16. That's... actually a little terrifying. I had heard that a lot of programs had previously (2012 - 2017) only received between 90 - 350 applications per cycle across both the PhD and Masters levels (with UNC-Chapel Hill having a relatively high number) Maybe everyone's hopping on the data science train?
  17. I don't know them personally, but it looks like from what they wrote on the results page that they're an international student with a great pure Statistics background.
  18. Congrats to the person who got accepted into Columbia! It looks like things have started picking up in the application side of things so hopefully those of us still waiting will get some good news soon.
  19. I relate so hard to this; I applied to 9 schools as well and people have already started getting phone interviews and acceptances, but I have yet to hear back from any program, even as a rejection. Like what @historygeek said, my programs will probably start posting en mass in the first week of February and I'm petrified but also want to get it over with. It's the worst. Good luck to everyone waiting it out! This too shall pass.
  20. My backup is attending my Alma Mater's business school for a master's in either big data or information assurance, staying with my lab group, and then redoing PhD applications.
  21. Oh, sorry for misreading. That is a really quick turn around!
  22. I checked UW yesterday and my application status is still submitted. I'd imagine probably next week they would start sending out notices since their deadline was Dec 3rd.
  23. Oh me too, those dreams are simply the worst. I'm sorry about that, hopefully you'll get an acceptance soon and the dreams will go away!
  24. I'm wrapping up my BSes (it's my final semester). My class load is a bit lighter this time around, so I'm taking the opportunity to apply for lots of conferences and spend extra time on my senior project. I'm also catching up on a lot of TV shows and video games I missed over the past 2 years and trying out new hobbies like bullet journalling. I'm trying to use this semester as a sort-of crash course in healthy time management and self care so I'm not dying in a Ph.D. program. Despite all of this, I still check my email way too much, lol.
