  1. Is Temple going to be able to fund you? I'm sorry about Irvine
  2. No, it is definitely still exciting! You are so close, but don't let that excitement get in the way of logic. I read a bunch of opinions on whether it's a good idea to accepted an unfunded Ph.D. and most people said definite no and that the majority of unfunded Ph.D. students never get funding after the fact and actually drop out due to the cost. I would just take another year and try again! I have been hearing great success stories of taking a year and fixing parts of their application that were weak and getting accepted into every program they apply to! But don't give up hope it sounds like they are working to get you funding!
  3. Wow! It sounds like they are pretty confident they'll be able to offer you a funded spot, but I don't know if you should take an unfunded offer... you may never get funding and owe a lot of money by the end of the Ph.D., wouldn't it be better just to strengthen your application and reapply next year? I don't think you want to pay out of state at Temple for at least 4 years.
  4. I feel like that was the case with my mentors too, because I went directly to the loudest rooms and found them with ease.
  5. I didn’t go to Rutgers!! I went to American and that one was fun
  6. The cost is ridiculous! I understand that, I also narrowed down my choices a lot. I only applied to four and I did that too, there was a couple of schools receptions I didn’t like at all. I’m lucky because my interests align really well with sociology so I was able to apply to at least one sociology program. I really liked Temples reception but hated Penn States and George Masons lol
  7. That is a long distance relationship! I’m sorry, is there any reason you only wanted to apply to 3?
  8. I'm guessing you don't go to Temple but you live in Philadelphia huh? Did you get an interview at UCI? I thought they did interviews? It sounds like you only applied to a couple programs, and you've only heard back from Arizona State?
  9. Sometimes it isn't up to the professor whether or not they want to work with you, unfortunately, it could just be that the committee (which he might now be on) decided that there was a stronger candidate regardless of the fact that the professor likes you and wants to work with you ?. Have you been accepted elsewhere? You aren't just waiting on this program I hope!
  10. I was theorizing that Temple does it where they have waitlists for each individual spot that have specific research interests and once that spot has an official acceptance then everyone on that waitlist is rejected and if someone doesn’t take the spot they choose someone the next person ranked highest on that specifc waitlist.
  11. Just the email provided for contact and I just asked for my status! It was like cjgrad or something like that. I didn’t email anyone in particular.
  12. I am going to the University of Iowa's visit day at the beginning of March! Hope it isn't -2,000 degrees while I'm there. My cousin said I should've applied to warm places and I completely ignored that advice!! That's okay I'm still very excited.
  13. I found out this morning, they emailed me a long email stating they have made all their final decisions and that I was unfortunately not admitted because of a strong applicant pool and blah blah blah. I had emailed them last week asking for an update though so maybe that's why I heard back this morning. You should hear back soon! And I got into the University of Iowa's Sociology Ph.D. and Northeastern's Master's program so I have two options but I'm most likely going to choose the University of Iowa because there is a professor there who I really want to work with and it's fully funded lol! I hope you hear back from Temple soon and I hope it is good news
  14. Rejected from Temple ? That’s okay! Now I know for sure where I’m going
  15. Yeah, I doubt that we will hear back today since it's 5:30 in Philly, but the acceptances did go out on a Saturday so I think we can assume they will still send them out over the weekend.
  16. I DEFINITELY agree with that statement. Unfortunately, some programs just don't. I was sooo so upset when I first found this website because I saw the Temple acceptances but I've been still holding out hope and I think we all should too! Until we hear that we are rejected we should still hope!!
  17. Seeeeee! I think we should all stay hopeful! If you are on a waitlist it takes a while because people actually have to reject their offers for a spot to open up and most don't do that until almost the deadline.
  18. I am not trying to cause a panic I am sorry, I know they have a silent waitlist she told me that, there is still a huge chance that some of us are on the waitlist and we have to be patient. They said the decisions weren't coming out until mid-February right? Well, we still have a few more days to hear back from there I think we should all be patient. If it was like April 14th and you hadn't heard back then I would be incredibly worried but I think we all need patience.
  19. Here is my honest opinion about this. I believe that they have already sent out their acceptances and that some of us are on a silent waitlist. But instead of sending rejections so people know who is on a waitlist or not, they are just being silent about it so that when they do send out acceptances (off a waitlist) or rejections that people just assume that they were never on a waitlist. From prior years it is looking like they DON'T send out rejections and they just ghost you. Which is completely unfair but I am not 100% if that is true, it's just what I have learned from looking back at old forums from like four years ago that many of the people who applied to Temple who were not accepted were like never contacted again, at least up until the thread ended which is usually around March. I tried to figure out if they send out acceptances after the December 22nd deadline and they do, but rarely and probably only to people who were pulled off the waitlist. But as for rejections go, I haven't seen a single person say that they were told that they were rejected from the program and maybe that is just how they do things. I have no idea.
  20. She said December 22nd and this was back in November.
